What Caused This File Problem?

Somehow my MPEG2 video files don't show a giant picture of a strip of film as the picture, it shows a smaller one with a musical note as well and when I want to import these video files to Windows Movie Maker the video files keep on going under the audio strip where the software thinks it's a audio file when it's really a video file. What caused this and how do I fix it?

Many thanks for that. The thing is I'm still having this problem. I'm not trying to default a file to any piece of software, I'm trying to change the design of the file back. My MPEG2 video files no longer show a big picture of a piece of film, they show a small one with a musical note now and when I make the look of the file itself big, there's no thumbnail image. As I said before, when I add these MPEG2 video files to Windows Movie Maker the video files go under Audio instead of Video all the time where the software thinks it's an audio file. I haven't checked with MPEG1 because I hardly use it due to me filming in wide screen but other video files like AVI are perfect.

(I haven't had a problem with any of those registry hack .reg files on that site but it's a good idea to back up with something first just in case.. maybe ERUNT or a restore point if you use them.)

Clearing/rebuilding the icon cache is another thing that comes to my mind.

It's the same. Windows 7 is Vista 6.1 with a Superbar.

UncasMS has the right idea with the icon cache. The link I gave is more if Explorer forgets its settings. If the icon cache trick doesn't work it may be worth a go.
