IMg speeds

I have a question,

I just recently started to use ImgBurn
and I am using NEC 3550 to burn with curently Verbatim 8X DVD+R media

however Imgburnis reporting burn speeds of 12X?

This is the 2nd time ImgBurn has reported write speeds higher than the media says. Is this normal , what is happening?

I checked the 1st DVD and it seemed fine (I forgot to set verify.....)
anyhoo here is the log form the second burn.

It is your firmware doing this. I have same drive and firmware. Verbatims 8X are such good media that Liggy's and Dee's will allow burning at 12X (overburning). You have to set your speed in ImgBurn!

Yeah - you got write speed MAX. Those blanks can write 12X with the correct firmware. Set the speed manually as Gary says.

I have Image Burn set at 4x but it burns at just over 6x.

Decrypter did the same thing.

Is this normal?

If you have a liteon or one of it's rebadges(sony?) some media can be only burned at 6x or higher
