Thanks to you both. I think I've learned my lesson with cheap drives (Staples $10 special. lol). I'll throw in the BenQ when I get it and see how it works. It certainly can't be any worse as I was getting a fair number of coasters anyway.

Imgburn and nero work well on my boxes but I haven't ever used any of the
really bad burning programs that hose that bus thing?
sonic, gear, roxio, etc

I just wanted to drop a note and say thanks to everyone who lent a hand with my problem. I finally installed a new BenQ 1655 and switched my media to Verbatims so now it's all running perfectly.

I have been getting this exact same error-- with three drives. It seems to have started about the time I upgraded to the latest greatest 2.4.0, but I can't be sure. I got the error with a Hitachi GWA-4165B, it was teh one that came with my computer and I assumed it had went out so I bought a new drive. (the one in the logs below)

The new drive worked for a bit and suddenly started doing this... thought that drive might have went bad so I returned it and got another one. It burned a few disks and the problem came back.

This Problem occurs with DL media and several kinds of single Layer media (+R,-R,+-RW, etc). I thought maybe it was malware or something so I BLEW away the entire system... everything, including the partitions so nothing would be left, and installed Vista Enterprise again, then installed SAV Corporate, followed by only imgeburn.... nothing else is installed on the system.

It just hangs at writing the leadin.

Just a quick follow up on my previous post... and to help anyone else having this problem.

I was able to get this resolved by re-installing/installing Nero. (Versions 6.6 and 8 worked in my case, but the trials worked as well) This seems to happen semi-often and I'm still not sure why. Note: I did not (intentionally/so far as I know) install just the ASPI drivers from nero's site. Installing the app fixed the problem.

All my IMG burn settings are default. I just checked and the IO settings are using "SPTI - Microsoft".

Anyone know of any reason why this happens? It's not a huge pain now that I know how to fix it, but the only way to find it is to end up burning a coaster with the "Writing Lead In" problem... then uninstall and re-install nero. It works for a period of time, then dies again.
