    Suddenly can't burn

I have a Sony VAIO desktop with Imgburn and DVDShrink which have worked flawlessly for some time now. I 've not changed any settings lately [or installed new software]. Suddenly I cannot burn a DVD with Imgburn [or with DVDDecrypter which I also kept, and tried].

    Here's a log sample:

    I 11:12:58 DVD Decrypter Version 3.5.4.0 started!
    I 11:12:58 Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition (5.1, Build 2600 : Service Pack 2)
    W 11:12:58 Drive I:\ (FAT32) does not support single files > 4 GB
    W 11:12:58 Drive K:\ (FAT32) does not support single files > 4 GB
    I 11:12:58 Initialising SPTI...
I 11:12:58 Searching for SCSI / ATAPI devices...
    I 11:12:58 Found 1 DVD±RW!
    I 11:14:10 Operation Started!
    I 11:14:10 Source File: K:\GFS.ISO
    I 11:14:10 Source File Sectors: 156,117 (MODE1/2048)
    I 11:14:10 Source File Size: 319,727,616 bytes
I 11:14:10 Source File Implementation Identifier: DVD Shrink
    I 11:14:10 Destination Device: [0:0:0] PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-109 1.10 (D (ATA)
    I 11:14:10 Destination Media Type: DVD+R (Disc ID: SONY-D21-00) (Speeds: 4x, 6x, 8x, 12x, 16x)
    I 11:14:10 Destination Media Sectors: 2,295,104
    I 11:14:10 Write Mode: DVD

I have tried to write CD [music] with Nero, and it works.

    Any suggestions?

your burner may be dying or the firmware needs updating

        hmmm,

tough decision, flash firmware, change media or buy a new drive?

        firmware is free?

I tried a Verbatim disk from a new package I bought, and it worked...do you think the drive is a problem? I have a laptop with a MadDog drive and the Sony disks [the kind that wouldn't work on my Sony Desktop] seem to work fine...are disks that different????

Do you think I should flash the drive? It's a drive that came in the computer...I'm not sure how to do that.....

I'm not sure how to do that.....

that's all you have to say, just click on that 1.58 file I linked to, it's an .exe
              updater, download it

make sure there's no disk in the drive and just cick on the file and wait and reboot

It still cannot find the drive to flash...do I need to do something other than to boot into safe mode, save to my disk, then double click? [it also does not work in regular mode, which I also tried].
