ImgBurn and Double Layer DVDs

I recently purchased an LG Double Layer External Burner and I'm having a few issues... wondering if anyone has any advice...

If my disk is not protected, I am using DVD Decrypter to make an ISO file, then opening the file in ImgBurn to burn.
The disc burns ok, but it is hanging up on the Verify portion. I then have to quit the application completely. It has only worked through the burn and verify once. The other discs do not work properly when attempting to back them up, if that makes sense. I AM using Memorex Double Layer DVD+R dvds, and I have read that most people say to throw them out. Do you think this is the issue, or is it the way I'm doing it?

Also, if I understand the posts I've read on here, I only want to use RipIt4Me and Build Mode in ImgBurn for protected discs... is this correct?

Basically I'm looking for an easy solution to backup on Double Layer DVDs (protected or not).

RipIt4Me should handle any discs with new protection on it, using this program for discs that aren't protected seems like a little bit of overkill to me...might just want to use DVD Decrypter by it's lonesome for these discs. Furthermore, you don't need to complete all the steps with RipIt4Me as far as DVD Shrink being the last step before the burn. Once you have your ISO or VIDEO_TS folder for burning, you should be able to continue with Imgburn from there. Here are some guides using either method:

OK thanks, so Decrypter to ImgBurn for Double Layer Burning seems OK... still wonder why the Verify portion freezes... I'll try Verbatim and see if the issue is resolved.

I never verify...do the discs play in your standalone?

Yes, it looks like they play. However, when attempting a backup of this backup, it fails in DVD shrink (I'm not trying to do a double layer burn in Shrink... just testing to see if it will backup in Shrink, which it should).

It might just be inconsistent bc of the brand of DVDs...

I think you are on to something there...

It is ALWAYS a good idea to verify. That way you can see if the disk reads well.

Most likely you're blanks are inferior.

My recommended method of 1:1 copy would be RipIt4Me in ISO mode followed by ImgBurn.

I use CDspeed to see how well the disc reads...if it doesn't verify do you just throw it away? You got a copy that will play, but won't be able to rerip.

If it doesn't verify - it's a bad burn. A verify is better than CD Speed (since it not only compares the readability but where the byte read = byte written).

Certainly unrippable and not properly decodable at the bad sector(s).

It would be a POF (a parity outer failure) and you'd get a CRC error.

OK, thank you... I will try this method. I was just under the assumption that RipIt4Me was only for protected discs.

Once I've changed the mode to ISO, should I leave the FixVTS settings checked, or does it matter with a non-protected disc?

FixVTS won't work on an ISO - it is read only.

And RipIt4Me works on all DVDs.
