Slow burn times

I have a Phillips 8820 8x CD/DVD Burner (DVD+/-RW) and am using Verbatim 16x DVD-R discs, set ImgBurn to MAX yet my burn times are 2x or less.

I haven't had any problems but is there anything I can do to speed it up?

OK, I lowered the speed from MAX to 8x and it burned faster up to 6x with an average of 4.2x Twice as good as it has been doing, but still wondering if it's as good as it gets. Here's the log:

Check your DMA and see if there's an update for your firmware.

who made the laptop?

have you been running disk cleanup and defrag?

plenty of room on the hard drive(s)?

what's drive d?

I have a Dell E1505 Core Duo. I haven't been running defrag but am now as it needs it. I generally run disk clean-up though. 20 free gigs on my hard drive. (I delete the decrypted and shrink files after burning) D drive is a back-up partition.

I'll check if my firmware needs updating.
