Do errors during verify = unplayable DVD?

I just backed up a DVD (and thanks for all the help in getting me started, I'm a newb) and it got all the way to the verifying process on ImgBurn (after I put it back in once it opens the DVD drive).

It got about 20% through, but then said it couldn't read from certain sectors or something from the VIDEO_TS file...

I know I am supposed to have saved the log, but I accidentally ended the process and it didn't give me an option to save... Sorry about that.

But I put the DVD in to play and was able to skip through each chapter, and each one had audio and video at the start. I haven't had time to attempt watching it.

But basically does this mean there will be parts of the DVD that don't play right?

You don't have to put it back in, when Imgburn has finished burning & you have verify checked, it will cycle the tray or it should. Failing verify does not necessarily mean that it will not play. A burn log would have been handy but here's what you can do until you have one to post, open ImgBurn, make sure it is in write mode, insert a blank disc that you use in the tray, copy & paste the information that appears in the right hand window in to a reply post.

First check the Save log and Append existing options in the Events tab of ImgBurn.

Next, the verify error means it can't read back successfully what it wrote (by the way, ensure AnyDVD is not running during a verify - it will fcuk up the results).

So, you do not have a successful backup. It might be something important or just one sector of video that you may not even miss (it is quite likely that it is not at the start of a chapter - so the quick test you did is not real good). But it's there.

Burn it again is my advice. And read and implement the Golden Rules of Burning.

I have had a disk or two pass verification and still show glitches during playback, depends on the player and it's age and the burner doing the verification. Remember some burners have better error correction in their reads than some players. Another point, as that burn ages it will degrade.

with such a problematic laptop burner, use only the best media, preferably 8X and slow the burn speed to at least 4X

have you called the laptop manufacturer about a firmware upgrade?

that should have shown an 8X burn speed for that blank????
