weird verify problem

i keep getting this wierd problem verifying - the discs rip ok and appear to burn ok
but then when verifying i get to around 75 - 95 percent and i get read error and if i try again or continue it says there is a ' maps to file error'
which is not one i have heard of before
it happens with lots of different iso and mds files and with several different types of dvdr
even with an iso ive had on my hard drive for months
it doesnt happen all the time - but most of the time
i have noticed that the speed when burning does seem to oscillate wildly
it does the same when verifying going right up to full speed and several time slowing down till it almost stops - and then finally it does
i know the rips are ok - and i think the isos are ok - it has to be an imgburn problem or some other burning problem
although i have tried burning with decrypter once or twice and im having trouble with that too
i have tried playing a couple of the discs and they seem to play fine
ive attached a log (i think)

Can you scan one of ripped DVDs with CD/DVD speed??

I am wondering if it is a disk quality issue??

What is the MID on these discs??

its happening with 4 different makes of discs bought at different times and places - i would think its unlikely i would be getting exactly the same error on the last 20 percent of the discs

MID= Media IDentification

When you stick a blank disc in ImgBurn, it will show the MID on the right hand sign in the box.

If the problem is happening at the exact same place, is that where the firmware changes write strategies?? Have you ever used DVDInfoPro in conjuction with ImgBurn?? Sometimes a spike will occur where the drive changes writing speed. (This is true with the NEC 3550)

What speed are you burning at??

i do get the occasoinla disc that goes wrong down at around 50 per cent

i am getting a lot of pauses during the burn while the buffers recover - i have increased the size of the buffer and while it shows up in the cpu usage it doesnt actually seem to help the pauses themselves
but if it was down to lack of available memry wouldnt i get variuos errors and not just ' maps to file ' errors

i was told by a source on here not to burn at max.. just use 8x it might take a little longer but will solve a lot of problems with burning issues..

oh yeh i burn at max usually although not always
that seems to be the thing to try
but again why would it always come up with the same error on the second half of the disc

and wouldnt i get errors while burning also?

ive now successfully burnt three dvds at a slower speed - so it seems yuo were right - so thanks for the advice
a few months ago i had some discs that wouldnt work unless i speeded the burn right up
i wish dvdrs were more consistant - i bought a hundred at a time and they burnt fine until i got about halfway down - they vary greatly just in one pack
let alone from week to week or month to month - and seems to happen regardless of price ,the more expensive ones are better but still not good enough in my opinion.
every time i think ive cracked and i have found a good make i can stick with - sooner or later they go downhill
its not so much the wasted money although it is annoying - its the aggro and the waste.
