Hi, everybody. I don't want to start a new thread because I'm having the same problem as the original poster: I'm having trouble burning DL DVD. Here's the ImgBurn's log:

I'm using Philips DVD+R DL media, my DVD drive firmware is up to date.

UPDATE: checked the list of recommended media for my burner and it says that only Verbatim DL DVDs are recommended. This leads to another question: can the error which I'm getting (see log above) be caused by "bad" media? "The Golden rules of burning" by Blutach says "Only use Verbatim for DL burning" but what if my problem is not media-related....

your drive may me a little too old to write dual layer, they wear out

if it's still writing single layer and doing a good job verified by scanning with cdspeed then I would keep it, but dl are too expensive to waste on an older drive

I have been a big fan of nec over the years, but Samsung seems to be building a better product now

I try to stay away from the newest model until it gets better firmware support

didn't even see it at newegg

the 182 is a good drive also, some issues with dvd-r leadin?

thank you, Chewy. I think I'll give my NEC another chance with Verbatim DLs and if it fails, I'll upgrade to the new drive.

UPDATE: looks like my burner really loves only Verbatim DLs. One burn OK, second - in progress.

make sure it's not a weak power supply, connect the dvd burner to the power supply with a straight run and nothing sharing power in that line of connectors

test the burner by burning at the fastest speed possible on a single layer disk

do you have the burner slaved to another device, bad practise

As for me, my burner is primary master with no slaves (all hdds are sata). Burns SLs at 16x just fine. power connected is a direct line to power supply.

are you using default ms ide drivers? filter driver load clean(see tools imgburn)?
log said burned at 2x but the burn speed is 2.4 for that media???????

                      Destination Device: [0:1:0]
just for my curiosity, the burner is master on what ide controller?

my 3520 burned a few hundred disks then I gave it to my son, he burned a few hundred, I scanned some of the last disks it burned, they were awful, we retired it.

good thing new ones are so cheap
