    Stats:

For the week ending 7th June 2014, here are the stats:

    Percentage of revenue:
    Blu-ray vs DVD: 33.51% vs 66.49%

Blu-ray sales total spending: $37.17 million
DVD sales total spending: $73.74 million

    These stats available from here:

    Home Media Magazine

    Top 10:

New releases are back and so did Blu-ray revenue and market share. Not quite to the highs of earlier in the year, but definitely off the bottoms of the past month or so.

The title most responsible for this comeback is Lone Survivor, which was easily this week's best seller.

It outsold the second placed, and also newly released, (2014 remake of) RoboCop by 3-to-1.

In third place was another new release, Son of God.

As for the rest of the new releases, True Blood: The Complete Sixth Season finished in 5th place, while In the Blood and Falling Skies: The Complete Third Season finished outside of the top 10, in 13th and 14th respectively.

So a couple of new releases, and a fairly good A-list-ish release, and Blu-ray revenue and market share bounces back a bit.

The complete top 10 chart is below (new releases in bold, and Blu-ray exclusives are denoted by *):
    1. Lone Survivor
    2. RoboCop
    3. Son of God
    4. Frozen
    5. True Blood: The Complete Sixth Season
    6. Avatar
    7. The Monuments Men
    8. 3 Days to Kill
    9. The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug
    10. How to Train Your Dragon

    Blu-ray Share:

'Lone Survivor' did quite well on Blu-ray, with a BD sales share of 53.89% meaning that more Blu-ray copies of the film was sold than DVD-only copies. 'RoboCop' wasn't too far behind though, with 53.61%.

Further back was 'Son of God', with 35.04%. Both the new season box sets of 'True Blood' and 'Falling Skies' managed 30%, while 'In the Blood' managed 26%.

None of the new releases were available on Blu-ray 3D.

      Stats:

For the week ending 14th June 2014, here are the stats:

      Percentage of revenue:
      Blu-ray vs DVD: 33.37% vs 66.63%

Blu-ray sales total spending: $38.43 million
DVD sales total spending: $76.72 million

      These stats available from here:

      Top 10:

Blu-ray and DVD revenue rose a little compared to the last week, and Blu-ray market share remaining largely unchanged.

While the new releases this week weren't chart toppers, they did well enough to help Blu-ray maintain momentum following weeks of below-par performance. The week's best selling new release, and overall best seller was Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit. It only just managed to beat last week's number one, 'Lone Survivor'. A Walmart exclusive double pack including 'Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit' and 'The Italian Job' also charted, at 5th.

The next best selling new release was Non-Stop in 3rd place.

Cosmos: A Spacetime Odyssey finished as high as 7th in its first week of release, while True Detective rounded off the top 10 in 10th place.

Devil's Knot finished in the top 20 combined Blu-ray and DVD charts, but failed to make the Blu-ray top 20.

So a couple of good new releases to keep Blu-ray revenue and market share steady.

The complete top 10 chart is below (new releases in bold, and Blu-ray exclusives are denoted by *):
      1. Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit
      2. Lone Survivor
      3. Non-Stop
      4. RoboCop
      5. Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit/The Italian Job (Walmart exclusive)
      6. The Monuments Men
      7. Cosmos: A Spacetime Odyssey
      8. Son of God
      9. The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug
      10. True Detective

      Blu-ray Share:

Out of all the new releases this week, 'Cosmos: A Spacetime Odyssey' was the best performer in terms of BD sales share, with 64.14% of all discs sold for this title being the Blu-ray edition.

'Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit' managed a very good BD sales share of 56.91%, 61.9% if you count the Blu-ray exclusive Walmart double pack.

Going down the list, 'True Detective' got 49.10%, while 'Non-Stop' got 43%.

At the bottom of the list, 'Devil's Knot' got 12%.

None of the new releases were available on Blu-ray 3D.

        Stats:

For the week ending 21st June 2014, here are the stats:

        Percentage of revenue:
        Blu-ray vs DVD: 35.28% vs 64.72%

Blu-ray sales total spending: $41.93 million
DVD sales total spending: $76.92 million

        These stats available from here:

        Home Media Magazine

        Top 10:

Blu-ray revenue and market share rose slightly thanks to the release of the A-list release The Lego Movie.

It was easily the top seller for the week on both Blu-ray and DVD, and by a huge margin as well. For example, on Blu-ray, it outsold the number two title 'Lone Survivor' by almost a 14-to-1 margin.

The Grand Budapest Hotel was the next best selling new release, at (a distant) 3rd place.

That was it for the top 10 though, with Joe coming in at 16th, and House of Cards: The Complete Second Season coming in at 19th.

Joy Ride 3: Roadkill was another new release that made the combined Blu-ray and DVD top 20, but failed to make the Blu-ray top 20.

So an A-list release, and we have the best Blu-ray results since April.

The complete top 10 chart is below (new releases in bold, and Blu-ray exclusives are denoted by *):
        1. The Lego Movie
        2. Lone Survivor
        3. The Grand Budapest Hotel
        4. Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit
        5. Non-Stop
        6. RoboCop
        7. Frozen
        8. How to Train Your Dragon
        9. Son of God
        10. Cosmos: A Spacetime Odyssey

        Blu-ray Share:

While not selling as many copies, 'The Grand Budapest Hotel' had the best BD sales share of all the new releases, with 51.89% of all disc packages sold for the movie containing a Blu-ray copy.

'The Lego Movie' wasn't too far behind though, with 48.83%.

The other releases did less well. 'House of Cards: The Complete Second Season' managed 25%, and 'Joe' and 'Joy Ride 3: Roadkill' managed 17% and 16% respectively.

Only 'The Lego Movie' was available on Blu-ray 3D, with 5.28% of sales being the 3D version of the film.

          Stats:

For the week ending 28th June 2014, here are the stats:

          Percentage of revenue:
          Blu-ray vs DVD: 30.28% vs 69.72%

          Home Media Magazine

          Top 10:

Blu-ray revenue and market share are off the last few week's highs, but market share was still above 30% of thanks to this week's best seller, 300: Rise of an Empire.

Other than this, new releases was again fairly light, with Winter's Tale the only other new release in the top 10.

Duck Dynasty: Season 5 actually did well enough to be ranked 6th on the combined Blu-ray and DVD charts, but did not sell well on Blu-ray at all and failed to make the Blu-ray top 20.

In reverse, A Hard Day's Night made the Blu-ray top 20 at 16th, but failed to sell enough to make the combined list.

Star Trek: The Next Generation - Season Six, a Blu-ray exclusive, came in at 17th.

The complete top 10 chart is below (new releases in bold, and Blu-ray exclusives are denoted by *):
          1. 300: Rise of an Empire
          2. The Lego Movie
          3. Lone Survivor
          4. Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit
          5. Frozen

          8. The Grand Budapest Hotel
          9. Winter's Tale
          10. How to Train Your Dragon

          Blu-ray Share:

The new '300' movie joins the ever growing list of new releases that breaks the 50% BD sales share mark, with 51.06% of all disc packages sold for this film containing the Blu-ray edition of the film. It was also available on Blu-ray 3D, and the 3D edition was 8.76% of all sales.

The other releases didn't do as well on Blu-ray compared to DVD sales. 'Winter's Tale' had a BD sales share of 27%, while 'Duck Dynasty: Season 5' only managed 5%.

            Stats:

For the week ending 5th July 2014, here are the stats:

            Percentage of revenue:
            Blu-ray vs DVD: 25.50% vs 74.50%

Blu-ray sales total spending: $22.66 million
DVD sales total spending: $66.22 million

            These stats available from here:

            Home Media Magazine

            Top 10:

A very quiet week in terms of new releases, and again, Blu-ray and DVD revenue are once again on the slide. The only new release in the Blu-ray top 10 only just managed to sneak into the top 10, and that was The Legend of Korra: Book Two - Spirits.

While there were a couple of other new releases in the combined Blu-ray and DVD top 20, two of them weren't even available on Blu-ray, and the other failed to sell enough on Blu-ray top make the Blu-ray top 20. That particular title was Monster High: Clawesome Double Feature.

With a new 'Transformers' and 'Planet of the Apes' movie out, their respective prequels makes their way back into the top 10.

So another very weak week in terms of new releases, and this completely explains this week's relatively poor results.

The complete top 10 chart is below (new releases in bold, and Blu-ray exclusives are denoted by *):
            1. The Lego Movie
            2. 300: Rise of an Empire
            3. Lone Survivor
            4. Frozen
            5. Non-Stop
            6. Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit
            7. Transformers: Dark of the Moon
            8. Rise of the Planet of the Apes
            9. RoboCop
            10. The Legend of Korra: Book Two - Spirits

            Blu-ray Share:

The only new release in the top 20 this week, 'The Legend of Korra: Book Two - Spirits', managed a BD sales share of 28.66%. Not the best result on Blu-ray relatively speaking, as 71.34% of all sales for this title were still for the DVD-only edition.

'Monster High: Clawesome Double Feature' managed 13%.

There were no Blu-ray 3D releases in the top 20.

              Stats:

For the week ending 12th July 2014, here are the stats:

              Percentage of revenue:
              Blu-ray vs DVD: 24.09% vs 75.91%

Blu-ray sales total spending: $19.28 million

              These stats available from here:

              Home Media Magazine

              Top 10:

Another "bad" week in terms of new releases and Blu-ray revenue fell to its lowest level since August 2012 - Blu-ray weekly revenue has rarely fallen below the $20 million mark since then. DVD revenue was also very near its lowest mark.

There were still new releases in the top 10, including one as highly placed as 3rd. The Raid 2 did well enough to be only outsold by 'The Lego Movie' and '300: Rise of an Empire'.

In 7th place was another new release, Bad Words.

Outside of the top 10, we have Jackass Presents: Bad Grandpa .5 in 17th place.

And that was it in terms of new releases in the top 20 - hardly what you would call a big week. The question now is: where are all the big releases?

The complete top 10 chart is below (new releases in bold, and Blu-ray exclusives are denoted by *):
              1. The Lego Movie
              2. 300: Rise of an Empire
              3. The Raid 2
              4. Frozen
              5. Rise of the Planet of the Apes
              6. Lone Survivor
              7. Bad Words
              8. Non-Stop
              9. Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit
              10. RoboCop

              Blu-ray Share:

'The Raid 2' actually had the best BD sales share of any title during the week, with 68.83% of all packages sold for this film containing the Blu-ray edition of the film. Unfortunately, it just didn't sell enough on Blu-ray or DVD to make a huge impact in terms of revenue.

'Bad Words' managed 37.40% while 'Jackass Presents: Bad Grandpa .5' got 26.95%.

None of these releases were available on Blu-ray 3D.

Blu-ray sales decreased by $3.89m (down 16.8%), while DVD sales decreased by $15.38m (down 20.2%) producing an $19.27 million less in combined revenue.

                Stats:

For the week ending 19th July 2014, here are the stats:

                Percentage of revenue:
                Blu-ray vs DVD: 27.92% vs 72.08%

Blu-ray sales total spending: $26.96 million
DVD sales total spending: $69.59 million

                These stats available from here:

                Top 10:

A slight recovery for both DVD and Blu-ray compared to the miserable week last week, thanks largely to the release of Rio 2, which outsold pretty much everything else this week.

It was actually the only new release in the Blu-ray top 10, but there were a few that didn't quite make it. The closest to making the top 10 was Under the Skin, in 11th.

Scanners in 16th was the only other new release in the Blu-ray top 20.

Hell on Wheels: The Complete Third Season and Road to Paloma made the combined Blu-ray and DVD top 20, but failed to sell enough on Blu-ray to make the Blu-ray top 20.

So still not a great week, but certainly not the worst anymore.

The complete top 10 chart is below (new releases in bold, and Blu-ray exclusives are denoted by *):
                1. Rio 2
                2. The Lego Movie
                3. 300: Rise of an Empire
                4. Rise of the Planet of the Apes
                5. Frozen
                6. The Wolf of Wall Street
                7. Rio
                8. Lone Survivor
                9. Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues
                10. Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit

                Blu-ray Sales Share:

BD sales share for a title is the percentage of disc packages sold for this movie that contained the Blu-ray edition of the film (including combos). So a BD sales share of 60% indicates that 60% of disc packages sold for this particular film contained the Blu-ray edition for this film.

'Rio 2' debuts on Blu-ray with a BD sales share of 45.47%, the best of this week's new releases. It was also available on Blu-ray 3D, and the BD3D sales share was 4.99%.

                'Under the Skin' managed 36.17%,

                  Percentage of revenue:
                  Blu-ray vs DVD: 26.05% vs 73.95%

                  Top 10:

Blu-ray and DVD revenue stayed fairly flat despite a couple of new releases in the top 10 this week. Heaven Is for Real was the best selling of the new releases, and the top selling title for the week - the rest of the new releases were of even lower profile than this title.

Transcendence was the next best selling new release, in 3rd place. Sabotage was not that far behind in 4th place. The Single Moms Club rounded off the new releases in the top 10, in 10th place.

The new releases that didn't make the top 10 include An American Girl: Isabelle Dances Into the Spotlight in 12th, and Appleseed Alpha in 13th.

Justin and the Knights of Valor didn't make the Blu-ray top 20, but ranked 20th on the combined Blu-ray and DVD chart.

The complete top 10 chart is below (new releases in bold, and Blu-ray exclusives are denoted by *):
                  1. Heaven Is for Real
                  2. Rio 2
                  3. Transcendence
                  4. Sabotage
                  5. The Lego Movie
                  6. 300: Rise of an Empire
                  7. Frozen
                  8. Lone Survivor
                  9. Rise of the Planet of the Apes
                  10. The Single Moms Club

BD sales share for a title is the percentage of disc packages sold for this movie that contained the Blu-ray edition of the film (including combos). So a BD sales share of 60% indicates that 60% of disc packages sold for this particular film contained the Blu-ray edition for this film.

'Appleseed Alpha' had the best BD sales share for the week, despite not selling too many copies overall, with 55.16%.

'Transcendence' had 43.55%, while 'Sabotage' managed 39.09%.

The week's top seller, 'Heaven is for Real', only managed 25.56%, just behind 'Justin and the Knights of Valor' with 26.27%.

As for the others, the ones that didn't make the BD sales share top 20, 'An American Girl: Isabelle Dances Into the Spotlight' got 13% and 'The Single Moms Club' got 10%.

                    Stats:

For the week ending 2nd August 2014, here are the stats:

                    Percentage of revenue:
                    Blu-ray vs DVD: 27.24% vs 72.76%

Blu-ray sales total spending: $27.40 million

                    These stats available from here:

                    Top 10:

Revenue for both Blu-ray and DVD remains largely unchanged, as releases were still light on the ground, despite the release of Noah (which was the selling new releases and overall best seller on Blu-ray for the week).

The Other Woman was in a distant second place to 'Noah', while The Protector 2 was the remaining new release in the top 10, in 9th place.

Outside of the top 10, we also have the Blu-ray exclusive Twin Peaks: The Entire Mystery in 13th place.

So not the best slate of new releases, but enough to keep market share and revenue steady for another week.

The complete top 10 chart is below (new releases in bold, and Blu-ray exclusives are denoted by *):
                    1. Noah
                    2. The Other Woman
                    3. Heaven Is for Real

'Noah' did fairly well on Blu-ray, better than on DVD in fact, with a BD sales share of 51.31%.

Despite coming in second, 'The Other Woman' managed only 25.29%, beaten by 'The Protector 2' for 33.18% (which was also available on 3D, with a BD3D sales share of 5%).

                      Stats:

For the week ending 9th August 2014, here are the stats:

                      Percentage of revenue:
                      Blu-ray vs DVD: 29.68% vs 70.32%

Blu-ray sales total spending: $33.08 million
DVD sales total spending: $78.38 million

                      These stats available from here:

                      Home Media Magazine

                      Top 10:

The release of the $150 million box office hit Divergent has helped to raise both Blu-ray revenue and market share (and DVD revenue rose as well), compared to recent weeks.

God's Not Dead, in 2nd place, was the next best selling new release - but Divergent outsold it by a 5-to-1 margin.

Third place also belonged to a new release, Need for Speed.

In 5th place was Oculus, and that was it for new releases in the Blu-ray top 20.

So not really quantity, but quality, as a single release managed to bring weekly Blu-ray market share closer to 30% once again.

The complete top 10 chart is below (new releases in bold, and Blu-ray exclusives are denoted by *):
                      1. Divergent
                      2. God's Not Dead
                      3. Need for Speed
                      4. Noah
                      5. Oculus
                      6. Heaven Is for Real
                      7. Rio 2
                      8. The Other Woman
                      9. The Lego Movie
                      10. Frozen

'Divergent' leads this week's new releases in terms of BD sales share (51.43%), with more Blu-ray copies being sold than DVD ones.

'Need for Speed' wasn't too far behind, with 44.34%, and 'Oculus' had 36.62%.

                      'God's Not Dead' managed 29.61%.

None of these new releases were available on Blu-ray 3D.

I think it is a mismatch, as 29.68% is higher then 29.28. So BD market share actually increased.

Ah yes, otherwise the 'all green' remark wouldn't have made sense (not colorblind, honest).

Sorry about that, typical copy/paste error due to using last week's post as template (as I usually do). Now corrected!

For the week ending 16th August 2014, here are the stats:

                              Percentage of revenue:
                              Blu-ray vs DVD: 27.59% vs 72.41%

Blu-ray sales total spending: $27.44 million
DVD sales total spending: $72.02 million

                              Top 10:

No A-list release this week, and Muppets Most Wanted was the best of the new releases for this week. It failed to beat Divergent to the top spot though, coming in second.

In third place was another new release, Batman: Assault on Arkham.

As for the rest of the new releases, the Blu-ray exclusive Bears came 6th. You have to go all the way to 16th place to find the next new release, A Haunted House 2, followed by Rage in 19th place.

There were also a bunch of not-so-new, new releases (or rather, new on Blu-ray releases). Hercules in 8th and Tarzan in 9th were the best performing ones, but Bedknobs and Broomsticks and The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr Toad/Fun and Fancy Free both ranked in the top 20, in 14th and 20th respectively.

So a lot of new releases, or at least new to Blu-ray, but this did not help Blu-ray market share and revenue to keep last week's highs.

The complete top 10 chart is below (new releases in bold, and Blu-ray exclusives are denoted by *):
                              1. Divergent

BD sales share for a title is the percentage of disc packages sold for this movie that contained the Blu-ray edition of the film (including combos). So a BD sales share of 60% indicates that 60% of disc packages sold for this particular film contained the Blu-ray edition for this film.

As expected, the Disney re-releases topped the BD sales share charts, even though you could argue these are really Blu-ray exclusives. For example, 'Bedknobs and Broomsticks' led with a BD sales share of 98.39%, which makes it virtually a Blu-ray exclusive release. 'Tarzan' and 'Hercules' managed 91.71% and 82.93% respectively. Disney's other new release, 'Bears', was a Blu-ray exclusive.

For the actual new releases, 'Batman: Assault on Arkham' managed 66.80%, ahead of the 54.52% for 'Muppets Most Wanted' - both having went above the 50% mark means that the Blu-ray version of these films were more popular than the DVD-only editions.

For the rest of the releases, 'A Haunted House 2' managed 29%, 'Rage' managed 17%.

None of these new releases were available on Blu-ray 3D.

                                Top 10:

We finally have an A-list release this week, and unsurprisingly, Blu-ray revenue and market share rose sharply. Both metrics were at their highest since June, and it was all thanks to The Amazing Spider-Man 2.

While the new Spider-Man movie was by far the best selling title for the week, outselling the second placed 'Divergent' by more than a 10-to-1 margin (and with the Walmart and Blu-ray exclusive double movie pack also ranking at high as 3rd, and the original 'The Amazing Spider-Man' was in 10th place), there were also plenty of other new releases, even if most didn't make the Blu-ray top 10.

The next new release was in 6th place, Toy Story of Terror!.

'Frozen' returns to the top 10 after a brief hiatus.

Most of the other new releases were TV season packs, which tend to come out at this time of the year as the new TV season is just about to begin. While 'NCIS: The Eleventh Season' was the best selling overall of these TV boxsets, it wasn't available on Blu-ray. Boardwalk Empire: The Complete Fourth Season ranked 16th on the Blu-ray chart, while Once Upon a Time: The Complete Third Season was not popular enough on Blu-ray to get into the 20 (despite selling more on Blu-ray and DVD combined).

Jarhead 2: Field of Fire was the remaining new release in the top 20, coming in at 20th.

The Quiet Ones was 17th on the combined Blu-ray and DVD top 20 chart, but did not make the Blu-ray top 20.

So plenty of new releases, but only one counted.

The complete top 10 chart is below (new releases in bold, and Blu-ray exclusives are denoted by *):
                                1. The Amazing Spider-Man 2
                                2. Divergent
                                3. * The Amazing Spider-Man 2-Pack
                                4. God's Not Dead
                                5. Muppets Most Wanted
                                6. Toy Story of Terror!
                                7. The Lego Movie
                                8. * Bears
                                9. Frozen
                                10. The Amazing Spider-Man

'The Amazing Spider-Man 2' did very well on Blu-ray, with almost two-thirds (66.56%) of sales having contained the Blu-ray edition of the film. It was also the only new release on Blu-ray 3D, with exactly 13.00% of all sales being the 3D version.

'Toy Story of Terror!' managed 37.77%, 'Boardwalk Empire: The Complete Fourth Season' got 34.78% and 'Jarhead 2: Field of Fire' had a BD sales share of 31.47%.

The rest of the new releases didn't make the BD sales share top 20. Both 'Once Upon a Time: The Complete Third Season' and 'The Quiet Ones' got 24%.
