    Stats:

For the week ending 15th August 2015, here are the stats:

    Percentage of revenue:
    Blu-ray vs DVD: 25.32% vs 74.68%

Blu-ray sales total spending: $19.85 million
DVD sales total spending: $58.56 million

    These stats available from here:

    Home Media Magazine

    Top 10:

Another really poor week for Blu-ray, and if it wasn't for the record low from a couple of weeks back, Blu-ray weekly revenue would have been setting all new kinds of unwanted records this week.

The lack of a top selling new release is again to blame for the week's poor results. The best selling of this week's new releases was Hot Pursuit, but it only managed to get as high as third place on the Blu-ray sales chart.

Further back in 4th place was another new release, Unfriended.

The next new release was in 8th place, Police Story: Lockdown, while in 10th place was the week's last new release (out of the top 20), Northmen: A Viking Saga.

The lack of new releases really didn't help the Blu-ray numbers at all, with weekly Blu-ray market share falling back to just above 25%.

The complete top 10 chart is below (new releases in bold, and Blu-ray exclusives are denoted by *):
    1. Insurgent
    2. Home
    3. Hot Pursuit
    4. Unfriended
    5. The Divergent Series Double Feature
    6. Do You Believe?
    7. X-Men: Days of Future Past
    8. Police Story: Lockdown
    9. The Longest Ride
    10. Northmen: A Viking Saga

    Blu-ray Sales Share:

BD sales share for a title is the percentage of disc packages sold for this movie that contained the Blu-ray edition of the film (including combos). So a BD sales share of 60% indicates that 60% of disc packages sold for this particular film contained the Blu-ray edition for this film, and so anything over 50% means that the Blu-ray version of the film was more popular than the DVD version.

Of this week's new releases, 'Unfriended' had the best BD sales share, 38.78%. 'Police Story: Lockdown' wasn't too far behind, with 38.68%.

'Northmen: A Viking Saga' managed 27.39%, while this week's top selling new release 'Hot Pursuit' only managed 26.45%.

No Blu-ray 3D releases in the top 20 this week.

Another "all red" week. This time last year wasn't a great week for new releases either, with the number one spot not being a new release either, but 'Muppets Most Wanted' was a bigger release than 'Hot Pursuit'

Blu-ray sales decreased by $7.57m (down 27.6%), while DVD sales decreased by $13.74m (down 19%) producing $21.31 million less in combined revenue.

Blu-ray's market share decreased from 27.50% to 25.32%.

For the week ending 22nd August 2015, here are the stats:

        Percentage of revenue:

        Top 10:

Another very quiet week and Blu-ray weekly revenue and market share continued to drop, albeit only by a small amount compared to last week.

Unlike last week, this week's number one selling Blu-ray was indeed a new release, the Blu-ray exclusive Walt Disney Animation Studios Short Films Collection.

Unfortunately, that was it for new releases in the Blu-ray top 10, and it's all the way down in 13th for the next new release, Once Upon a Time: The Complete Fourth Season. This is the time of the year where TV shows are gearing up for their new seasons, and so there will be lots of TV box sets coming around this time, including The Blacklist: The Complete Second Season in 15th, and NCIS: The Twelfth Season, which failed to make the Blu-ray top 20 despite being 5th in the combined Blu-ray and DVD sales chart.

In 18th place was the last new release in the top 20, Little Boy.

Two others made the combined top 20, but failed to get into the Blu-ray top 20: Vendetta and Strangerland.

The complete top 10 chart is below (new releases in bold, and Blu-ray exclusives are denoted by *):
        1. Walt Disney Animation Studios Short Films Collection
        2. Home
        3. Insurgent
        4. Hot Pursuit
        5. The Divergent Series Double Feature
        6. Kingsman: The Secret Service
        7. X-Men: Days of Future Past
        8. The Longest Ride
        9. Police Story: Lockdown
        10. Unfriended

Of this week's new releases, 'The Blacklist: The Complete Second Season' at 29.70% had the best BD sales share, just ahead of 'Little Boy' with 29.10%.

'Once Upon a Time: The Complete Fourth Season' managed 22%, 'Vendetta' got 21% while 'Strangerland' got 16%.

'NCIS: The Twelfth Season' only got 4%.

None of this week's notable new releases were available on Blu-ray 3D.

Another "all red" week, as this week's releases couldn't cope with this time last year's 'The Amazing Spider-Man 2', with Blu-ray sales down a massive 41.2% compared to the same week last year.

Blu-ray sales decreased by $13.4m (down 41.2%), while DVD sales decreased by $14.17m (down 20%) producing $27.57 million less in combined revenue.

          Top 10:

Another near record low for Blu-ray revenue and market share as a top tier new release failed to materialize yet again.

Given that it's that time of the year where TV season box sets gets released, it was appropriate that the week's top selling Blu-ray was The Walking Dead: The Complete Fifth Season boxset.

In third place was the next new release, Aloha.

There were three more new releases in the top 10, including Lego DC Comics Super Heroes: Justice League - Attack of the Legion of Doom!, Big Game and The Runner in 6th, 7th and 8th place respectively.

Skin Trade finished just outside of the top 10, in 11th.

Making the combined Blu-ray and DVD chart, at 19th, but failing to make it into the Blu-ray top 20 was Lila & Eve.

So plenty of new releases, but hardly a collection of what you would call must-have titles.

The complete top 10 chart is below (new releases in bold, and Blu-ray exclusives are denoted by *):
          1. The Walking Dead: The Complete Fifth Season
          2. Walt Disney Animation Studios Short Films Collection
          3. Aloha
          4. Home
          5. Insurgent
          6. Lego DC Comics Super Heroes: Justice League - Attack of the Legion of Doom!
          7. Big Game
          8. The Runner
          9. Star Wars: The Original Trilogy
          10. Kingsman: The Secret Service

'The Walking Dead: The Complete Fifth Season' managed to get a BD sales share of 36.79%, which is respectable, but down on Season 4's 38.41%.

'Lego DC Comics Super Heroes: Justice League — Attack of the Legion of Doom!' was close behind with 35.02%, while 'The Runner' got 31.91%, just ahead of the 30.71% for 'Aloha' and the 30.48% for 'Skin Trade'.

'Big Game' managed 29.34%, while 'Lila & Eve' got only 16%.

None of this week's notable new releases were available on Blu-ray 3D.

Another "all red" week, despite this time last year's best selling new release also being a Walking Dead season boxset. But 'The Amazing Spider-Man 2' was still selling well at that time, so it explains the better results from last year.

Blu-ray sales decreased by $7.73m (down 29.9%), while DVD sales decreased by $17.05m (down 23.7%) producing $24.78 million less in combined revenue.

            Top 10:

We finally have an A-list release in Mad Max: Fury Road and both Blu-ray revenue and market share rose as expected off recent lows. The new Mad Max film was such a boost to Blu-ray that the next best selling new release, in 4th place, was the Blu-ray exclusive Mad Max Anthology.

You then have to go all the way to 10th place for the next new release, Star Wars: Rebels - Complete Season One. There was only one other new release in the top 20, Texas Rising in 11th place.

On the combined Blu-ray and DVD chart, The Vampire Diaries: The Complete Sixth Season finished in 15th place, but failed to sell enough copies on Blu-ray to get into the top 20.

The complete top 10 chart is below (new releases in bold, and Blu-ray exclusives are denoted by *):
            1. Mad Max: Fury Road

            8. Aloha
            9. Star Wars: The Prequel Trilogy
            10. Star Wars: Rebels - Complete Season One

The other titles did less well, with 'Texas Rising' managing 24.86% and 'The Vampire Diaries: The Complete Sixth Season' only getting 18% (up from season five's 17%).

Of this week's top 20 Blu-ray releases, only 'Mad Max: Fury Road' was also available on Blu-ray 3D, with a BD3D sales share of 9.27%.

The run of "all red" weeks has been broken by this week's much improved Blu-ray revenue and market share figures, thanks to the new 'Mad Max' movie being up against this time last year's 'Draft Day'.

Blu-ray sales increased by $6.37m (up 30.7%), while DVD sales decreased by $6.94m (down 10.2%) producing $0.57 million less in combined revenue.

              Top 10:

No A-list releases this week, and so Blu-ray revenue and market share dropped back, with market share below 30% again.

The Age of Adaline was the week's best selling new release for the week, but it was only the second most popular Blu-ray title for the week, behind 'Mad Max: Fury Road'.

The next new release in the top 10 was actually in 10th, Supernatural: The Complete Tenth Season.

Outside of the top 10, the TV box set releases continues with Gotham: The Complete First Season in 12th, and Homeland: The Complete Fourth Season in 15th.

In between these two box sets was Barbie in Rock ’N Royals in 14th and American Heist, tied in 15th with the new season of Homeland.

Star Wars fever is definitely in the air, with all three Star Wars box sets in the top 10 this week (and possibly in the weeks leading up to episode VII).

The complete top 10 chart is below (new releases in bold, and Blu-ray exclusives are denoted by *):
              1. Mad Max: Fury Road

              9. Star Wars: The Complete Saga
              10. Supernatural: The Complete Tenth Season

'Gotham: The Complete First Season' had the best BD sales share of all the new releases this week, with 49.84%. It's a terrific result for a TV box set, considering the other box sets this week, Homeland and Supernatural managed only 21% and 19% respectively.

The week's top seller, 'The Age of Adaline', didn't do as well, with a BD sales share of only 29.51%. 'American Heist' managed 23.03%, while 'Barbie in Rock ’N Royals' only got 14%.

No Blu-ray 3D releases in the top 20 this week.

Another "all red" week, but it's understandable given that this time last year was the week 'Captain America: The Winter Soldier' was released, one of the biggest releases of the year.

Blu-ray sales decreased by $16.85m (down 44%), while DVD sales decreased by $14.95m (down 20.4%) producing $31.8 million less in combined revenue.

                Stats:

For the week ending 19th September 2015, here are the stats:

                Percentage of revenue:
                Blu-ray vs DVD: 42.20% vs 57.80%

Blu-ray sales total spending: $50.66 million
DVD sales total spending: $69.38 million

                These stats available from here:

                Home Media Magazine

                Top 10:

Not one, but two A-list releases this week and we have the second best set of weekly Blu-ray market share results ever. Weekly Blu-ray revenue wasn't that close to record highs, but it was still a high set of results outside of major shopping events like Black Friday.

The two major releases were Furious 7 and Cinderella. The former was clearly the best seller, selling twice as many copies of 'Cinderella' (which outsold last week's number one, 'Mad Max: Fury Road', by nearly a 9-to-1 ratio).

The new Fast & Furious movie was so popular, that the Fast & Furious Collection was also in the top 10 at 4th (and there were 13th, 19th and 20th place finishes for 'Fast & Furious 6', 'Fast Five' and 'The Fast and the Furious').

Other new releases in the top 10 includes The Big Bang Theory: The Complete Eighth Season and Love & Mercy in 9th.

Outside of the top 10, we have the Blu-ray exclusive Monkey Kingdom in 11th.

Empire: The Complete First Season finished just outside of the top 20.

So a double hit of box office goodness helped Blu-ray weekly revenue go above $50 million for the first time since April (when 'Interstellar' was released).

The complete top 10 chart is below (new releases in bold, and Blu-ray exclusives are denoted by *):
                1. Furious 7
                2. Cinderella
                3. Mad Max: Fury Road
                4. Fast & Furious Collection
                5. The Big Bang Theory: The Complete Eighth Season
                6. The Age of Adaline
                7. Star Wars: The Original Trilogy
                8. Home
                9. Love & Mercy

'Furious 7' was also the week's top release when it came to BD sales share, with 62.22%. It was closely followed by the 'Fast & Furious Collection' at 60.17% (and there were five other 'Furious' movies in the BD sales share top 20). 'Cinderella' was in third place, with 60.02%.

'Love & Mercy' managed 31.03%, 'The Big Bang Theory: The Complete Eighth Season' got 28.19%.

'Empire: The Complete First Season' had a BD sales share of 19%.

There were no Blu-ray 3D releases in the top 20 this week.

                  Stats:

For the week ending 26th September 2015, here are the stats:

                  Percentage of revenue:
                  Blu-ray vs DVD: 34.69% vs 65.31%

Blu-ray sales total spending: $32.86 million
DVD sales total spending: $61.87 million

                  Top 10:

Blu-ray revenue and market share both dropped compared to the near record highs of last week, but still remained at a high level (revenue above $30 million and market share above 30%).

The week's top selling title was a new release as well, Pitch Perfect 2. The next highest selling new release was also Pitch Perfect related, the Pitch Perfect Aca-Amazing 2-Movie Collection.

There are only two other new releases in the top 20, The Flash: The Complete First Season and Arrow: The Complete Third Season in 6th and 7th respectively.

Outside of the top 20, Chain of Command finished 18th on the combined Blu-ray and DVD charts.

So while this week's releases aren't in themselves particularly noteworthy, although 'Pitch Perfect 2' is still considered an A-list release, it's these combined with last week's 'Furious 7' that has helped the Blu-ray stats remain healthy for this week.

The complete top 10 chart is below (new releases in bold, and Blu-ray exclusives are denoted by *):
                  1. Pitch Perfect 2
                  2. Furious 7
                  3. Cinderella
                  4. Mad Max: Fury Road

                  6. The Flash: The Complete First Season
                  7. Arrow: The Complete Third Season
                  8. Star Wars: The Original Trilogy

'Pitch Perfect 2' had the best BD sales share out of this week's new releases, with 49.46%, just above the 'Aca-Amazing' two movie box set at 49.12%.

The first season of 'The Flash' did better than the third season of 'Arrow' on Blu-ray, 46.83% versus a still respectable 41.84%.

'Chain of Command' managed only 6%, which explains why it didn't make the Blu-ray top 20.

There were no Blu-ray 3D releases in the top 20 this week.

For the week ending 3rd October 2015, here are the stats:

                    Percentage of revenue:
                    Blu-ray vs DVD: 38.27% vs 61.73%

Blu-ray sales total spending: $44.22 million

                    Top 10:

Another A-list release this week in the form of Avengers: Age of Ultron, and Blu-ray revenue shot up back above $40 million again, although weekly market share was just shy of 40%.

While this latest Avengers movie was definitely the driving force for this week's better results, there were also other new releases in the top 10 including Spy (4th), 2015's Poltergeist (6th), Entourage: The Movie (7th) and Outlander: Season 1 Vol. 2 (9th).

Outside of the top 10, we have Monster High: Boo York, Boo York in 16th.

A couple of other titles made the combined Blu-ray and DVD top 20, but failed to get into the Blu-ray top 20. These include Walmart exclusive Spy/The Heat double pack (14th on the combined chart) and Grimm: Season Four (16th).

But it was really 'Avengers' that helped Blu-ray results this week.

The complete top 10 chart is below (new releases in bold, and Blu-ray exclusives are denoted by *):
                    1. Avengers: Age of Ultron

'Age of Ultra' was also available on Blu-ray 3D, with a quite impressive BD3D sales share of 26.89% (26.89% of all disc packages sold contained the Blu-ray 3D version of the film).

                      Top 10:

Unlike the last two weeks, no A-list releases this week, and instantly, DVD, Blu-ray revenue and Blu-ray weekly market share all dropped as a result.

The week's top selling new release was Magic Mike XXL, which did not sell enough copies either on Blu-ray or DVD to outsell 'Avengers: Age of Ultron', which was still this week's top selling title.

Within the Blu-ray top 10, Insidious: Chapter 3, Tremors 5: Bloodlines were the new releases, finishing in 6th and 8th respectively.

Outside of the top 10, and in the top 20, the new increases include Vikings: The Complete Third Season in 13th, When Marnie Was There in 16th and American Horror Story: Freak Show in 18th.

Outside of the top 20, Dark Places finished in the combined Blu-ray and DVD top 20.

The complete top 10 chart is below (new releases in bold, and Blu-ray exclusives are denoted by *):

                      9. Mad Max: Fury Road

This week's top selling new release, 'Magic Mike XXL', didn't even make the BD sales share top 20, with only 27% choosing to buy the Blu-ray version of the film.

Both 'American Horror Story: Freak Show' and 'Dark Places' managed 21%.

None of this week's notable releases were available on Blu-ray 3D.

DVD sales total spending: $63.65 million

                        Top 10:

Two relatively big releases and a classic Disney re-release helped Blu-ray revenue rise compared to last week. Blu-ray revenue rose above $40 million again, and weekly Blu-ray market share to go above 40%.

San Andreas was the best selling out of this week's new releases when taking into account Blu-ray and DVD sales, but it was the Blu-ray exclusive re-release of Disney's Aladdin that was the week's best selling Blu-ray.

In 4th place was another new release, and another Disney release, Tomorrowland.

And then it's all the way down to 10th for the next new release, Dope.

Outside of the top 10, How the Grinch Stole Christmas managed to get as high as 17th.

Outside of the top 20, The Gallows was 14th on the combined Blu-ray and DVD charts.

But it was really 'Aladdin' and to a lesser extent, 'San Andreas', that helped to boost the Blu-ray sales stats for the week.

The complete top 10 chart is below (new releases in bold, and Blu-ray exclusives are denoted by *):
                        1. *Aladdin
                        2. San Andreas
                        3. Avengers: Age of Ultron
                        4. Tomorrowland
                        5. Furious 7
                        6. Magic Mike XXL
                        7. Pitch Perfect 2
                        8. Cinderella
                        9. Spy
                        10. Dope

                        Blu-ray Sales Share:

BD sales share for a title is the percentage of disc packages sold for this movie that contained the Blu-ray edition of the film (including combos). 'Dope' narrowly beat 'Tomorrowland' in the BD sales share stakes, with 47% compared to 46.71%. 'San Andreas' was further back with 39.59%, and as it was also available on Blu-ray 3D, it managed a BD3D sales share of 7.46%.

'The Gallows' only managed 22%, which explains why it failed to break through to the Blu-ray top 20.

                          Stats:

For the week ending 24th October 2015, here are the stats:

                          Percentage of revenue:
                          Blu-ray vs DVD: 48.62% vs 51.38%

Blu-ray sales total spending: $64.34 million
DVD sales total spending: $68.00 million

                          These stats available from here:

                          Top 10:

A huge A-list release this week helped Blu-ray revenue reach its highest point in 2015, and for weekly Blu-ray market share reach a record high.

Jurassic World was the A-list release in question, and it blew away all other releases in its wake, outselling last week's number one ('Aladdin') by more than a 10-to-1 margin. The updated Jurassic Park Collection (that includes the new movie) also sold enough copies to get into the top 10 (at 7th). The new Jurassic Park movie also helped individual sales of the older movies, with 'Jurassic Park' and 'The Lost World: Jurassic Park' get into the top 20 (at 12th and 19th respectively).

The next best selling new release was in 4th, with Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection 'F'. Back to the Future Day (October 21st, 2015) helped sales of the Back to the Future: 30th Anniversary Trilogy, which ranked 6th this week.

There was only one more new release in the top 20, Paper Towns in 11th.

But as mentioned earlier, it was really 'Jurassic World' that helped to break some records for Blu-ray this week, with the highest sales result of 2015 so far, and the highest ever weekly Blu-ray market share of 48.62%, with Blu-ray nearly outselling DVDs for the week.

Of course, some of that is down to ever decreasing DVD sales. As a comparison, for the week 'The Hunger Games: Catching Fire' was released (in March, 2014), the week had a Blu-ray revenue of nearly $60 million, comparable to this week. But DVD revenue that week was $106.57 million, compared to only $68 million this week (and this is despite 'Jurassic World' being a much bigger box office hit than 'The Hunger Games: Catching Fire', $650 million versus $425 million).

The complete top 10 chart is below (new releases in bold, and Blu-ray exclusives are denoted by *):
                          1. Jurassic World
                          2. *Aladdin
                          3. San Andreas
                          4. Avengers: Age of Ultron
                          5. Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection 'F'
                          6. Back to the Future: 30th Anniversary Trilogy
                          7. Jurassic Park Collection
                          8. Tomorrowland
                          9. Furious 7
                          10. Star Wars: The Original Trilogy

The title that topped the BD sales share chart, Back to the Future: The Complete Adventures, didn't get into any of the sales top 20. With a whopping 93.65%, it makes you wonder why Universal even bothered to release the DVD edition of the collection, which includes all the movies plus the animated series. The 'Back to the Future: 30th Anniversary Trilogy' managed 59.91%, suggesting that Blu-ray is "where it's at" for collectibles.

'Jurassic World' did great for a new release as well, with 67.06% (the 'Jurassic Park Collection" was slightly behind with 61.35%). 'Jurassic World' was also available on Blu-ray 3D, with a BD3D sales share of 7.16%.

'Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection 'F'' managed 54.08%, while 'Paper Towns' scored 33.15%.

The stats for the week ending 25th October 2014 are as follows. Some small adjustments to the data posted last year (based on more recent updates) has been made and is shown below.

                          DVD: $66.73 million
From last week's 'all red' week to this week's 'all green', no surprises that this week's 'Jurassic World' beat this time last year's 'Earth to Echo'.

Blu-ray sales increased by $37.49m (up 139.6%), while DVD sales increased by $1.27m (up 1.9%) producing $38.76 million more in combined revenue.

Blu-ray's market share increased from 28.69% to 48.62%.

                            Top 10:

Blu-ray weekly revenue and market share are off their recent highs despite the presence of four new releases in the top 10.

The best selling of the new releases was Adam Sandler's Pixels, which did not sell enough copies on Blu-ray to beat last week's (and this week's) top seller, 'Jurassic World'.

A little bit behind in 3rd place was Southpaw.

Max in 6th place was the next best selling new release, with The Gift in 10th place rounding off things.

Outside of the top 20, in 20th place, was the re-release of Monty Python and the Holy Grail, the 40th Anniversary edition.

One title that made the combined Blu-ray and DVD top 20 but not the Blu-ray top 20 was Barbie & Her Sisters in The Great Puppy Adventure.

The complete top 10 chart is below (new releases in bold, and Blu-ray exclusives are denoted by *):
                            1. Jurassic World
                            2. Pixels
                            3. Southpaw
                            4. *Aladdin
                            5. Avengers: Age of Ultron
                            6. Max
                            7. San Andreas
                            8. Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection 'F'
                            9. Star Wars: The Original Trilogy
                            10. The Gift

'Monty Python and the Holy Grail' led the BD sales share charts for the week with a BD sales share of 79.46%. 'Southpaw' was the next best at 49.08%.

Despite being the top seller, 'Pixels' only managed 45.73%. 'The Gift' managed 40.93%.

'Max' managed 22%, while 'Barbie & Her Sisters in The Great Puppy Adventure' only managed 10%.

There were no notable new Blu-ray 3D releases for the week.

Just for fun, here is a seven year old data for the same period:

                              Blu-ray vs DVD: 9% vs 91%

All sales by $ volume (Percentage of Total Sales):
Blu-ray sales up 83.49% compared to last week, total spending: $20.17 million (10.35%)
DVD sales up 46.92% compared to last week, total spending: $174.71 million (89.65%)
Even if the percentage raises, the value is not rising but struggling.

Of course, it's just a sample, the previous week had $10 million revenue in the past, however IMHO now it can be stated, that not the BD figures are healthier week by week, but the entire optical market is dying.

IMHO the only question remains for today is that, which format will be completly dead for first.

Yep, it's clear that packaged media as a whole has been on the slide for a while now. Blu-ray managed to slow the decline for a while, but its growth has stalled now too.

Also, I can't believe I've been doing this for seven years already!
