    Stats:

For the week ending 23rd April 2016, here are the stats:

    Percentage of revenue:
    Blu-ray vs DVD: 37.15% vs 62.85%

Blu-ray sales total spending: $31.23 million
DVD sales total spending: $52.84 million

    These stats available from here:

    Top 10:

The Revenant was the top selling new release for the week ending 23rd April 2016, and it was also the overall best seller on Blu-ray and DVD.

It did well enough on Blu-ray to displace 'Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens' from the top spot.

In a very distant third place was the next new release, Ip Man 3.

The last new release in the top 10 was Norm of the North in 5th place.

Outside of the top 10, we have Misconduct in 11th and Fifty Shades of Black in 15th.

So while Oscar favourite 'The Revenant' was definitely an A-List release, both Blu-ray and DVD revenue dropped compared to last week and weekly Blu-ray market share dipped below 40% again.

The complete top 10 chart is below (new releases in bold, Blu-ray exclusives are denoted by *, UHD releases denoted by +):
    1. The Revenant+
    2. Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens
    3. Ip Man 3
    4. The Hateful Eight
    5. Norm of the North
    6. The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 2
    7. Justice League vs. Teen Titans
    8. Star Wars: The Original Trilogy
    9. Star Wars: The Prequel Trilogy
    10. Game of Thrones: The Complete Fifth Season

Blu-ray, Ultra HD Blu-ray Sales Share:

BD sales share for a title is the percentage of disc packages sold for this movie that contained the Blu-ray edition of the film (including combos). So a BD sales share of 60% indicates that 60% of disc packages sold for this particular film contained the Blu-ray edition for this film, and so anything over 50% means that the Blu-ray version of the film was more popular than the DVD version.

Of the previously mentioned new releases, it was actually 'Misconduct' that had the best BD sales share, with 73.55%.

'The Revenant' also managed to sell better on Blu-ray than on DVD, with 52.05%, something that 'Ip Man 3' just failed to achieve with 48.38%.

'Fifty Shades of Black' got 38% and 'Norm of the North' got 36%.

None of these new releases were available on Blu-ray 3D, but 'The Revenant' was available on Ultra HD Blu-ray, with 2.30% of all packages sold containing the 4K version of the film.

      Stats:

For the week ending 30th April 2016, here are the stats:

      Percentage of revenue:
      Blu-ray vs DVD: 33.50% vs 66.50%

Blu-ray sales total spending: $26.19 million
DVD sales total spending: $52.00 million

      Top 10:

It's gone all quiet on the releases front, as 'The Force Awakens' and last week's number one 'The Revenant' remained in the top two spots this week.

The week's most popular new release, Ride Along 2, was in third place. Further behind in 4th place was the next new release Krampus.

That was it for new releases in the top 10, and there was only one new release outside of the top 10 anyway, Jane Got a Gun.

So as you can see, this week was hardly a big week in terms of new releases, which explains the relatively low Blu-ray and DVD revenue this week.

The complete top 10 chart is below (new releases in bold, Blu-ray exclusives are denoted by *, UHD releases denoted by +):
      1. Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens
      2. The Revenant+
      3. Ride Along 2
      4. Krampus
      5. The Hateful Eight
      6. The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 2
      7. Ip Man 3

      9. Star Wars: The Original Trilogy
      10. Game of Thrones: The Complete Fifth Season

None of these new releases were available on Blu-ray 3D or Ultra HD Blu-ray.

        Top 10:

'Star Wars: The Force Awakens' was back at the number one spot this week, which can only mean one thing - the new releases this week weren't up to scratch.

This may be a bit harsh, because The 5th Wave wasn't too far behind, and it did beat 'The Revenant' in third place.

In 4th place was yet another Nicholas Sparks inspired movie, The Choice, which easily beat the fifth placed and the much better publicized Joy.

With the sequel coming in June, a new re-release of the 20th anniversary edition of Independence Day did well enough to get a top 10 finish, in 8th place.

But that was it for new releases in the top 20 though. Blu-ray results was down a little, while DVD revenue was up a little, thus making sure weekly Blu-ray sales share was lower.

The complete top 10 chart is below (new releases in bold, Blu-ray exclusives are denoted by *, UHD releases denoted by +):
        1. Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens
        2. The 5th Wave+
        3. The Revenant+
        4. The Choice
        5. Joy+
        6. Ride Along 2
        7. The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 2
        8. Independence Day
        9. Krampus
        10. The Hateful Eight

'The 5th Wave' enjoyed a great debut BD sales share of 75.30%, with 'Independence Day' getting 70.13%. 'The Choice' fell below the 50% mark with 42.81%.

        'Joy' only managed 23%.

There were a couple of UHD Blu-ray releases too this week, with both 'The 5th Wave' and 'Joy' available one the new 4K format. The UHDBD sales share for each title was 1.18% and 0.65%.

None of these new releases were available on Blu-ray 3D.

This weeks releases were up against 'Fifty Shades of Grey', and Fifty beat 5(th) well enough to ensure this week was an "all red" week.

Blu-ray sales decreased by $8.09m (down 23.7%), while DVD sales decreased by $11.57m (down 17.3%) producing $19.65 million less in combined revenue.

          Top 10:

This was the best week since that unbelievable week in which 'The Force Awakens' was released in early April, all thanks to one rude, crude masked superhero - Deadpool. It outsold the latest 'Star Wars' film, which was still the top seller as of last week, by more than a 18-to-1 margin.

There was only one other new release in the top 20, and that was The Boy in 5th.

Two more new releases were in the combined Blu-ray and DVD top 20, but didn't sell enough copies on Blu-ray to make it into the Blu-ray top 20. Lego Scooby-Doo! Haunted Hollywood and Wrestlemania XXXII were 10th and 18th on the combined list respectively.

But it was really only 'Deadpool' that had a huge effect on this week's sales, allowing Blu-ray revenue to rise above $50 million (up 89% compared to the same week last year) for the week again, and for weekly Blu-ray market share to reach its highest, for a non Star Wars week, since October last year (when Jurassic World was released).

The complete top 10 chart is below (new releases in bold, Blu-ray exclusives are denoted by *, UHD releases denoted by +):
          1. Deadpool+
          2. Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens
          3. The Revenant+
          4. The 5th Wave+
          5. The Boy
          6. The Choice
          7. Ride Along 2
          8. Joy+
          9. Avengers: Age of Ultron
          10. Ant-Man

'Deadpool' had a great set of BD sales share results, with 71.13%. This explains the better than average weekly Blu-ray market share result for the week.

For the other new releases, 'The Boy' managed to have the best BD sales share with 37%, followed by 'Lego Scooby-Doo! Haunted Hollywood' with 25% and 'Wrestlemania XXXII' with 13%.

'Deadpool' was also released on Ultra HD Blu-ray, with a UHDBD sales share of 3.28%. It's interesting to note that 3 of the top 4 sellers this week had Ultra HD Blu-ray editions.

None of these new releases were available on Blu-ray 3D.

            Top 10:

Dirty Grandpa is no Deadpool, at least not according to the sales figures. The De Niro/Efron comedy could not beat last week's super "hero" number one, and despite being this week's best selling new release, it could only manage a number two finish on the Blu-ray and DVD charts.

Overall, it was another very quiet week, with only one more new release in the entire top 20. That new release was The Witch, which came 4th.

Making the combined Blu-ray and DVD chart, but not the Blu-ray only chart, was Orange Is the New Black: Season Three, which finished 11th on the combined chart.

The quietness of the week meant that both Blu-ray sales and weekly market share returned back down to earth from last week's highs.

The complete top 10 chart is below (new releases in bold, Blu-ray exclusives are denoted by *, UHD releases denoted by +):
            1. Deadpool+
            2. Dirty Grandpa

            4. The Witch

'The Witch' actually had the higher BD sales share of the new releases this week, its 47.79% beat the 40.63% of 'Dirty Grandpa'.

'Orange Is the New Black: Season Three' got 19%.

None of these new releases were available on Ultra HD Blu-ray or Blu-ray 3D.

              Stats:

              Percentage of revenue:
              Blu-ray vs DVD: 32.10% vs 67.90%

Blu-ray sales total spending: $23.61 million

              Home Media Magazine

              Top 10:

Another quiet week, in which the week's top selling Blu-ray was still 'Deadpool'. The best selling new release, which came in 2nd place overall, was Risen.

Box office flop Zoolander No. 2 only managed to finish 5th, just 0.01 index points above the 6th placed The Finest Hours.

How to Be Single was slightly further behind in 7th place.

The last release in the top 20 wasn't in the top 10, and it was Rise of the Legend in 13th place.

So while there were numerous new releases, none lit up the box office when they were released at the cinemas, and as a result, all of them were fairly average when it came to Blu-ray (and DVD) sales. This meant that Blu-ray revenue was at its worst in 2016, and at its lowest since September of last year.

The complete top 10 chart is below (new releases in bold, Blu-ray exclusives are denoted by *, UHD releases denoted by +):
              1. Deadpool+
              2. Risen+
              3. Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens
              4. Dirty Grandpa

              6. The Finest Hours
              7. How to Be Single

So a BD sales share of 60% indicates that 60% of disc packages sold for this particular film contained the Blu-ray edition for this film, and so anything over 50% means that the Blu-ray version of the film was more popular than the DVD version.

Despite not doing great in terms of sales, 'Zoolander 2' did have a good BD sales share, with 51.94%. 'The Finest Hour' managed 41.17%, just ahead of the 39.96% of 'Risen'.

'Rise of the Legend' got 36%, while 'How to Be Single' managed 30%.

'Risen' was the only of the mentioned new releases available on Ultra HD Blu-ray this week, with a UHDBD sales share of 1.08%.

                Top 10:

The calm before the Zootopia shaped storm, as Gods of Egypt was the week's best selling new release and top overall seller.

It easily beat Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, which finished in 3rd place, just above the previously top selling 'Deadpool'.

There was room for two more new releases in the top 10, with Triple 9 and Race in 6th and 8th place respectively.

An interesting observation looking at the sales table below, all but one title in the top 5 was available on Ultra HD Blu-ray - that missing title being 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens'. With all due respect to the other titles, especially to 'Deadpool', but TFA is the exact kind of title that can help launch a new format and it's a shame Disney has decided to take a wait and see approach to the new format (and no, Zootopia isn't available on Ultra HD Blu-ray next week either).

So another quiet week, but next week is anything but, with Disney's animated hit Zootopia hitting Blu-ray for the first time.

The complete top 10 chart is below (new releases in bold, Blu-ray exclusives are denoted by *, UHD releases denoted by +):
                1. Gods of Egypt+
                2. Deadpool+
                3. Pride and Prejudice and Zombies+
                4. Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens
                5. Risen+
                6. Triple 9
                7. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (2014)
                8. Race
                9. Dirty Grandpa
                10. The Revenant+

'Triple 9' had the best BD sales share out of all the new releases this week, with 48.86%. It narrowly beat the 47.12% of 'Pride and Prejudice and Zombies' and the 45.49% of 'Gods of Egypt'.

'Race' was a little bit further behind with 41.76%.

Two of these four new releases were available on Ultra HD Blu-ray, with 'Gods of Egypt' also available on 3D (7.45% BD3D sales share). 'Pride and Prejudice and Zombies' got a UHDBD sales share of 2.67%, while 'Risen' only managed 1.26%. It's still early days (and Blu-ray's market share against DVDs wasn't much better when it first launched all those years ago), so don't take these figures too seriously yet.

For the week ending June 11th 2016, here are the stats:

                  Percentage of revenue:
                  Blu-ray vs DVD: 43.39% vs 56.61%

Blu-ray sales total spending: $46.75 million

                  Top 10:

A big week for Blu-ray thanks largely to Disney's Zootopia. It outsold the next best selling title by more than a 5 to 1 margin. That next best selling title, which was also a new release, was 13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi.

There were no less than five more new releases in the top 20, although only one of these, Hail, Caesar!, was in the top 10.

The others were Rick and Morty: Season 2 in 12th, and the new Director's Cut of Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, The Boy and the Beast, and Jarhead 3: The Siege in 17th, 18th and 19th.

But it was all about the mammalian mayhem, as Blu-ray revenue went back above $40 million for the week, with weekly Blu-ray market share going above 40% as well.

The complete top 10 chart is below (new releases in bold, Blu-ray exclusives are denoted by *, UHD releases denoted by +):
                  1. Zootopia
                  2. 13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi
                  3. Deadpool+
                  4. Gods of Egypt+
                  5. Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens
                  6. Hail, Caesar!
                  7. The Martian
                  8. The Revenant+
                  9. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (2014)

You may be surprised to find that 'The Boy and the Beast' had the week's best BD sales share, with 82.37%. '13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi' with 63.14% also did well, just above the 61.84% recorded by 'Rick and Morty: Season 2' and the 60.90% recorded by 'Hail, Caesar!'.

The week's top seller, 'Zootopia', also did well on Blu-ray, with its 59.51% falling just short of the other titles (but it's greater sales volume meant that its results had more significance).

'Jarhead 3: The Siege' got a respectable 41.54%.

None of these new releases were available on Ultra HD Blu-ray, but 'Zootopia' was available on 3D with a BD3D sales share of 3.82%.

Blu-ray sales increased by $18.19m (up 63.7%), while DVD sales decreased by $0.74m (down 1.2%) producing $17.45 million more in combined revenue.

                    Top 10:

'Zootopia' held on to the number one spot for the week, as the week's best selling new release, London Has Fallen, only managed to finish in second place.

There were four more new releases in the top 20, with 10 Cloverfield Lane being the best selling of the lot, finishing at 5th place.

The X-Files: The Event Series was at 10th place, just ahead of Eddie the Eagle at 11th.

And in 19th place was the last of the new releases in the top 20, The Young Messiah.

Another release, American Girl: Lea to the Rescue was in the combined Blu-ray and DVD top 20, but failed to crack the Blu-ray only top 20.

Blu-ray sales dropped this week due to falling off sales from 'Zootopia', but DVD revenue remained largely unchanged, meaning weekly Blu-ray share dropped back below 40%.

'Eddie the Eagle', which was the only new release to be also available on Ultra HD Blu-ray, managed 47.30%, with 1.62% of sales belonging to the 4K format.

                      Top 10:

My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2 was the week's top seller, but it failed to displace the last two week's number one, 'Zootopia'.

It was otherwise a pretty quiet week, with the only other new release in the top 10 being The Brothers Grimsby in 10th place. Closely behind in 11th place was Midnight Special.

Outside of the Blu-ray top 20, but finishing 14th on the combined Blu-ray and DVD chart, was The Wave.

So a relatively quiet week, and Blu-ray revenue fell back below the $30 million level, with weekly Blu-ray market share falling to the lowest level since March.

The complete top 10 chart is below (new releases in bold, Blu-ray exclusives are denoted by *, UHD releases denoted by +):

'The Wave' only managed a BD sales share of 10%, which explains why it failed to break into the Blu-ray top 20.

None of this week's notable new releases were available on 3D or UHD.

                        Stats:

For the week ending July 2nd 2016, here are the stats:

                        Blu-ray vs DVD: 31.63% vs 68.37%

Blu-ray sales total spending: $25.08 million
DVD sales total spending: $54.21 million

                        These stats available from here:

                        Home Media Magazine

                        Top 10:

Blu-ray and DVD revenue stay practically unchanged for the week ending July 2, 2016, despite the release of Kung Fu Panda 3. While the third Kung Fu Panda movie was easily this week's top seller (overcoming Zootopia), it apparently didn't sell enough to seriously lift Blu-ray results.

Four more new releases occupied the top 20, but only two of them were in the top 10. These were Whiskey Tango Foxtrot in 7th place and Eye in the Sky in 8th place.

Outside of the top 10, we have Precious Cargo in 14th place and the Walmart exclusive 'Man of Steel with Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice Digital HD' in 15th place.

'Kung Fu Panda 3-Movie Collection' was in the combined Blu-ray and DVD chart in 16th place, but didn't make the Blu-ray top 20.

But despite these new releases, Blu-ray and DVD sales remained largely unchanged.

The complete top 10 chart is below (new releases in bold, Blu-ray exclusives are denoted by *, UHD releases denoted by +):
                        1. Kung Fu Panda 3
                        2. Zootopia
                        3. 13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi
                        4. Deadpool+

Blu-ray, Ultra HD Blu-ray Sales Share:

BD sales share for a title is the percentage of disc packages sold for this movie that contained the Blu-ray edition of the film (including combos, and Ultra HD editions). So a BD sales share of 60% indicates that 60% of disc packages sold for this particular film contained the Blu-ray edition for this film, and so anything over 50% means that the Blu-ray version of the film was more popular than the DVD version.

'Kung Fu Panda 3' had the best BD sales share out of the new releases this week, and it managed 53.58%. 'Eye in the Sky' just missed out on getting over the 50% mark, with 48.65%.

'Whiskey Tango Foxtrot' got a respectable 39.76%, while 'Precious Cargo' was further behind with 29%.

None of this week's notable new releases were available on UHD, but 'Kung Fu Panda 3' was available as a Blu-ray 3D release exclusively to Best Buy.

Blu-ray revenue rose, while DVD revenue fell compared to the "same" week a year ago. But the July 4th holiday occurred during the same week last year, and so it would have affected the sales numbers negatively at that time.

                          Stats:

For the week ending July 9th 2016, here are the stats:

                          Percentage of revenue:
                          Blu-ray vs DVD: 31.98% vs 68.02%

Blu-ray sales total spending: $24.28 million
DVD sales total spending: $51.64 million

                          Top 10:

Both Blu-ray and DVD revenue fell, but DVD revenue fell a bit more, ensuring Blu-ray weekly market share rose slightly.

The poor result is mainly due to the Fourth of July holiday, and studios decided against having any major releases during this period. As a result, there was only a single new release in the top 20, and it only finished in 13th! That new release was Studio Ghibli's Only Yesterday.

There were two more new releases in the combined Blu-ray and DVD top 20 list, and they were I Saw the Light and House of Cards: The Complete Fourth Season in 13th and 14th respectively.

So a pretty quiet week in terms of new releases meant a pretty poor week in terms of sales, and the top 10 chart below retains a familiar feeling from weeks past.

The complete top 10 chart is below (new releases in bold, Blu-ray exclusives are denoted by *, UHD releases denoted by +):
                          1. Kung Fu Panda 3
                          2. Zootopia

                          10. Whiskey Tango Foxtrot

Blu-ray, Ultra HD Blu-ray Sales Share:

BD sales share for a title is the percentage of disc packages sold for this movie that contained the Blu-ray edition of the film (including combos, and Ultra HD editions). 'Only Yesterday' recorded a fairly good BD sales share of 76.02%. Season 4 of 'House of Cards' received 21%, while 'I Saw the Light' only got 10%.

None of this week's mentioned new releases were available on 3D or UHD.

                              Stats:

For the week ending July 16th 2016, here are the stats:

                              Percentage of revenue:
                              Blu-ray vs DVD: 35.19% vs 64.81%

Blu-ray sales total spending: $30.20 million
DVD sales total spending: $55.62 million

                              Top 10:

Both DVD and Blu-ray revenue rose compared to the previous week, with the Fourth of July holiday over, and four new releases in the top 20.

Allegiant was easily the week's top seller, and this new release was also available on 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray. In a slightly distant second place was Miracles From Heaven.

Then it's all the way down to 8th for the next new release, which was Green Room.

Outside of the top 10 was the last of the new releases, Lego DC Comics Super Heroes: Justice League - Gotham City Breakout in 12th place.

A couple of titles re-entered the top 20, including 'The Lord of the Rings Trilogy', 'Fast & Furious Collection', 'Mad Max: Fury Road', 'Minions', and 'The Hobbit: The Motion Picture Trilogy' - most likely due to the Amazon Prime Day event, where these and other titles were heavily discounted.

So a better set of Blu-ray results, thanks largely to Allegiant.

The complete top 10 chart is below (new releases in bold, Blu-ray exclusives are denoted by *, UHD releases denoted by +):
                              1. Allegiant+

Blu-ray, Ultra HD Blu-ray Sales Share:

'Allegiant' had the highest BD sales share out of the previously mentioned new releases this week, with a BD sales share of 54.36%. 'Green Room' wasn't too far behind, with 53.87%.

'Lego DC Comics Super Heroes: Justice League - Gotham City Breakout' managed 40%, while 'Miracles From Heaven' got only 27%.

As mentioned earlier, 'Allegiant' was also available on Ultra HD Blu-ray, with a UHDBD sales share of 2.46%.

                                Top 10:

A big release this week in the form of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, which was also available on 3D and Ultra HD Blu-ray. The latest DC superhero movie outsold the second placed 'Allegiant' by nearly a 12-to-1 margin, and was the only new release in the top 10.

Kill Zone 2 in 12th place was the next new release, followed by The Perfect Match in 15th place.

So another week where it's not about quantity, but quality, and the new Batman/Superman movie helped Blu-ray revenue rise above $40 million again.
