    Stats:

For the week ending May 11, 2019, here are the stats:

    Percentage of revenue (MPN):
    Blu-ray vs DVD: 44.72% vs 55.28%

Blu-ray sales total spending: $22.45 million
DVD sales total spending: $27.75 million

    These stats available from here:

    Top 10:

Blu-ray and DVD sales improved slightly off of the release of The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part.

It easily outsold everything else for the week, including the next best selling new release, What Men Want, in third place.

It was then all the way down in 15th for the next new release, The Prodigy.

There were two re-releases on Blu-ray too, in the form of the UHD re-release of Black Hawk Down and the 25th-anniversary edition of Forrest Gump.

This week's Ultra HD Blu-ray report: Other than the UHD re-releases, only 'The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part' was available on UHD. 8 out of this week's top 10 had a UHD edition.

The complete top 10 chart is below (new releases in bold, Blu-ray exclusives are denoted by *, UHD releases denoted by +):
    1. The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part+
    2. Aquaman+
    3. What Men Want
    4. Dragon Ball Super: Broly - The Movie
    5. Bumblebee+
    6. Glass+
    7. Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse+
    8. *Black Hawk Down+
    9. The Mule+
    10. Bohemian Rhapsody+

Blu-ray, Ultra HD Blu-ray Sales Share:

BD sales share for a title is the percentage of disc packages sold for this movie that contained the Blu-ray edition of the film (including combos, and Ultra HD editions). So a BD sales share of 60% indicates that 60% of disc packages sold for this particular film contained the Blu-ray edition for this film, and so anything over 50% means that the Blu-ray version of the film was more popular than the DVD version.

'The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part' managed a BD sales share of 68.53%.

'The Prodigy' got 49.72%, while 'What Men Want' managed 40%.

'The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part' was also available on 3D, but it only managed a 0.23% sales share.

For UHD sales share, 'The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part' got 7.82%.

Another "all red week" again where every metric below is worse off compared to the same week a year ago. 'Fifty Shades Freed' was released this time last year.

Blu-ray sales decreased by $9.39m (down 29.5%), with unit sales down 29.5%.

DVD sales decreased by $10.79m (down 28.0%), with unit sales down 25.2%.

This meant $20.18 million less in combined revenue for the week.

Blu-ray's market share decreased from 45.24% to 44.72%.

      Top 10:

Blu-ray sales dropped back down again as this week's new releases, while numerous, weren't popular enough to make a huge difference.

Cold Pursuit was the best selling new release for the week, but it could only sell enough copies to finish in second place.

Places 3rd to 5th were also new releases, in order, Fighting With My Family, Apollo 11 and Happy Death Day 2U.

Outside of the top 10, Backdraft 2 finished in 12th and Triple Threat finished in 13th.

Valentine: The Dark Avenger did not sell enough copies on Blu-ray to get into the Blu-ray top 20, but finished 10th on the combined Blu-ray and DVD chart.

Despite these new releases, Blu-ray sales fell below $20 million.

This week's Ultra HD Blu-ray report: Out of the 'Cold Pursuit' was available on UHD. Only 5 out of this week's top 10 had a UHD edition.

The complete top 10 chart is below (new releases in bold, Blu-ray exclusives are denoted by *, UHD releases denoted by +):

        Top 10:

Blu-ray sales increased compared to the previous week thanks to the release of How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World. As for the other new releases, The Upside was in second place, while Isn’t It Romantic in 5th.

And that was it for new releases, not only in the top 10 but also the top 20.

This week's Ultra HD Blu-ray report: Only 'How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World' was made available on UHD. Only 5 out of this week's top 10 had a UHD edition.

          Top 10:

A very quiet week, possibly due to the Memorial Day public holiday that occurred during the week. Only a single new release was made available during the week, and that was Outlander: Season Four, which finished in second place behind last week's number one 'How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World'.

This week's Ultra HD Blu-ray report: 'How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World' was made available on UHD, and so no new UDH releases in the top 20. Only 5 out of this week's top 10 had a UHD edition.

            Top 10:

Blu-ray revenue remained low this week, just slightly above $20 million, as a direct to Blu-ray release was the week's top-selling Blu-ray new release.

Batman vs. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles was that title, but it didn't sell enough copies to get to the top spot, which was still occupied by last week's 'How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World'.

A Madea Family Funeral was close behind in third place, while another new release, The Kid, was in 9th.

A couple of 4K re-releases also made the top 20 this week, including Toy Story in 10th, Toy Story 2 in 15th and Toy Story 3 in 16th.

This week's Ultra HD Blu-ray report: Other than the three 4K re-releases, only 'Batman vs. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles' was made available on UHD. Only 7 out of this week's top 10 had a UHD edition.

The complete top 10 chart is below (new releases in bold, Blu-ray exclusives are denoted by *, UHD releases denoted by +):
            1. How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World+

The others didn't do as well, with 'The Kid' managing 42.97% and 'A Madea Family Funeral' at 26%.

This was another "all red week". Hard to pin it on a particular release, as 'A Wrinkle in Time' from this time last year wasn't a big release either - but there were more of these smaller releases last year though.

Blu-ray sales decreased by $8.11m (down 28.0%), with unit sales down 24.4%.

DVD sales decreased by $5.76m (down 17.1%), with unit sales down 16.5%.

              Stats:

For the week ending June 15, 2019, here are the stats:

              Percentage of revenue (MPN):
              Blu-ray vs DVD: 52.60% vs 47.40%

Blu-ray sales total spending: $37.99 million

              Top 10:

A big-budget blockbuster was released on Blu-ray for the first time this week, and it has helped Blu-ray revenue nearly reach $40 million this week and helped weekly Blu-ray market share go above 50% for the first time in a while.

Captain Marvel stormed to the top of the sales charts, easily outselling everything in its wake.

As is the case when a big release arrives, other new releases are low in number as to avoid having to compete with a behemoth. As such, Five Feet Apart, in 9th, was the only other new release in the top 10.

Ghostbusters 1 & 2 has been re-released on 4K as a boxset this week as well for the movie's 35th anniversary, and it ended up coming 19th.

This week's Ultra HD Blu-ray report: 'Captain Marvel' was made available on UHD. 8 out of this week's top 10 had a UHD edition.

The complete top 10 chart is below (new releases in bold, Blu-ray exclusives are denoted by *, UHD releases denoted by +):
              1. Captain Marvel+
              2. Aquaman+
              3. Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse+

              7. Venom+
              8. Bumblebee+
              9. Five Feet Apart
              10. A Madea Family Funeral

'Captain Marvel' debuts on Blu-ray with a BD sales share of 72.97%, better than the 40% earned by Five Feet Apart.

The 4K edition of 'Captain Marvel' did well too, with a UHD sales share of 16.65%.

                Percentage of revenue (MPN):
                Blu-ray vs DVD: 44.00% vs 56.00%

Blu-ray sales total spending: $23.22 million
DVD sales total spending: $29.55 million

                Top 10:

The sales bump from 'Captain Marvel' wore off this week, and despite the release of the clever horror pic Us (second, far behind 'Captain Marvel'), Blu-ray revenue fell nearly $15 million compared to the previous week.

Third place was also occupied by a new release, Wonder Park, and you have to go all the way to 15th for the next new release, Hotel Mumbai, which was also the only other new release in the top 20.

This week's Ultra HD Blu-ray report: Only 'Us' was made available on UHD. 8 out of this week's top 10 had a UHD edition.

The complete top 10 chart is below (new releases in bold, Blu-ray exclusives are denoted by *, UHD releases denoted by +):
                1. Captain Marvel+
                2. Us+
                3. Wonder Park
                4. How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World+
                5. Toy Story+
                6. Bumblebee+
                7. Aquaman+
                8. Batman vs. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles+
                9. Five Feet Apart
                10. Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse+

Of the previously mentioned new releases, 'Hotel Mumbai' actually had the best Blu-ray sales share of 76.69%. 'Us' was further behind with 61.91%, while 'Wonder Park' had to settle for a (still respectable) 56.08%.

The 4K UHD editions of 'Us' managed to obtain a UHD sales share of 16.74%, which is a pretty good result.

The stats for the week ending June 23, 2018 are as follows. Some small adjustments to the data posted last year (based on more recent updates) have been made and are shown below.

                DVD: $36.98 million
Rising weekly Blu-ray market share saved this week from being an "all red" week, as 'Us' was not up to the battle with 'Pacific Rim Uprising' from this week last year.

Blu-ray sales decreased by $5.06m (down 17.9%), with unit sales down 20.0%.

DVD sales decreased by $7.43m (down 20.1%), with unit sales down 20.1%.

This meant $12.49 million less in combined revenue for the week.

Blu-ray's market share increased from 43.33% to 44.00%.

                  Top 10:

The live-action remake of Dumbo was this week's top seller.

It was still largely a quiet week in terms of Blu-ray revenue, mainly because 'Dumbo' can only be considered an average release in terms of the box office.

The anniversary edition of Cinderella (the 1950s version) has been re-released on Blu-ray (and came 3rd), and along with it, the 4K edition of the live-action remake.

The Poison Rose rounds off the new releases in the top 20, finishing in 12th place.

This week's Ultra HD Blu-ray report: 'Dumbo' was made available on UHD. 8 out of this week's top 10 had a UHD edition.

'The Poison Rose' had to settle for 41.66%.

On 4K Ultra HD, 'Dumbo' got UHD sales share of 8.75%.

                    Top 10:

Another quiet week, where Blu-ray revenue almost fell below $20 million. The top-selling new release for the week was Escape Plan: The Extractors, but it only sold enough copies on Blu-ray to finish in 3rd place.

Dragon Ball Super: Part 8, at 9th, was the only other new release in the top 20.

This week's Ultra HD Blu-ray report: Neither of the new releases this week was made available on UHD. 6 out of this week's top 10 had a UHD edition.

                      Top 10:

Blu-ray sales were up slightly compared to the last week as the 2019 remake of Pet Sematary was the top-selling new release and top seller for the week.

Paramount also bundled the 2019 movie with the 1989 classic in 4K and Blu-ray editions, which sold enough copies to get to 20th place on the Blu-ray chart.

The next new release was Little in 7th place, and After in 9th.

There were more new releases outside of the top 10, including Mothra in 17th and High Life in 19th.

This week's Ultra HD Blu-ray report: 'Pet Sematary' and its two-movie collection were available on UHD. 6 out of this week's top 10 had a UHD edition.

                        Top 10:

An Amazon sales even and an A-list release in the form of Shazam! helped Blu-ray revenue to rise, and for weekly Blu-ray market share to go above 50% (meaning Blu-ray sales were greater than DVD sales for the week).

That Amazon Sales event was Amazon Prime Day, which took place during the week these stats are from (and also explains why the top 10 list you see below has a few odd entries in it - that's due to the once-off discounts being applied during the event). Titles like Harry Potter Complete 8-Film Collection and Back to the Future Trilogy re-entered the top 100 most likely due to the sales event.

Breakthrough, in 4th place, was the only other new release in the top 10.

In 20th place was the digitally remastered From the Earth to the Moon, which was released on Blu-ray only.

You'll see a comparison with the same week last year down below, which serves as a good comparison between this year's Amazon Prime Day and last year's. Both Blu-ray and DVD sales were down compared to last year.

This week's Ultra HD Blu-ray report: Both 'Shazam!' and 'Breakthrough' were made available on UHD. 6 out of this week's top 10 had a UHD edition.

The complete top 10 chart is below (new releases in bold, Blu-ray exclusives are denoted by *, UHD releases denoted by +):
                        1. Shazam!+
                        2. Harry Potter Complete 8-Film Collection

Out of the two new releases, 'Shazam!' had the better of the BD sales share with 71.81%, which is almost double the 36% that 'Breakthrough' got.

'Shazam!' was also one of those increasingly rare titles that had a (Best Buy exclusive) 3D release, which gained a 3D Blu-ray sales share of 2.69%

On 4K, 'Shazam!' got a UHD sales share of 17.67%, which is a lot higher than the 2% that 'Breakthrough' had.

                          Stats:

For the week ending July 27, 2019, here are the stats:

                          Percentage of revenue (MPN):
                          Blu-ray vs DVD: 48.79% vs 51.21%

Blu-ray sales total spending: $26.38 million
DVD sales total spending: $27.69 million

                          Top 10:

A who's who of movies that failed to light up the box office are this week's new releases, starting with Alita: Battle Angel in top spot.

This particular release is also interesting as it was available in a 3-disc release that features not only the standard Blu-ray but also the 4K *and* 3D version of the film (a standard Blu-ray combo that includes the DVD version of the film was also available, but the usual 4K + Blu-ray + Digital version was not released in lieu of the 4K + 3D + Blu-ray + Digital version).

In a distant second place was another one of 2019's misses, the remake of Hellboy (this one was more of your traditional release, with the Blu-ray+DVD combo, 4K+Blu-ray combo and DVD only editions).

Box office disappointment Missing Link came 6th.

We had a few more new releases outside of the top 10. Master Z: Ip Man Legacy arrived in 13th place, while Critters Attack! finished in 15th.

This week's Ultra HD Blu-ray report: Both 'Alita: Battle Angel' and 'Hellboy' were made available on UHD. 8 out of this week's top 10 had a UHD edition.

The complete top 10 chart is below (new releases in bold, Blu-ray exclusives are denoted by *, UHD releases denoted by +):
                          1. Alita: Battle Angel+
                          2. Hellboy+
                          3. Shazam!+
                          4. Breakthrough+
                          5. Captain Marvel+
                          6. Missing Link
                          7. Dumbo+
                          8. The Lion King
                          9. How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World+
                          10. Pet Sematary+

'Alita: Battle Angel' totally bossed on the BD sales share chart with a BD sales share of 82.12%. The unique way this film was released on 4K and 3D meant that it was slightly tricky to calculate 3D sales share and 4K sales share, but 4K UHD sales share for the title was at a high 30.21% (and since the 3D version was included with every 4K edition, the 3D sales share can be considered the same).

'Hellboy' managed a BD sales share of 68.34% with a 4K UHD sales share of 16.67%.

The rest only had BD releases, and so 'Master Z: Ip Man Legacy' got 57.40%, 'Missing Link' got 56.00%, and 'Critters Attack!' just failed to get above 50% with 49.45%.

                          DVD: $33.44 million
Rising weekly Blu-ray market share helped to prevent another "all red" week, where all metrics this week is down compared to the same week last year. This is perhaps understandable given that 'Ready Player One' was the big release from this time last year.

Blu-ray sales decreased by $2.74m (down 9.4%), with unit sales down 4.6%.

DVD sales decreased by $5.75m (down 17.2%), with unit sales down 18.7%.

This meant $8.49 million less in combined revenue for the week.

Blu-ray's market share increased from 46.55% to 48.79%.

                            Top 10:

Blu-ray sales took a slight tumble mainly due to the calibre of releases for the week ending August 3.

Box office disappointment UglyDolls was the best selling of new releases, but it only came 4th on the Blu-ray sales chart.

Closely behind in 5th place was the next new release, Long Shot, while The Intruder in 7th was the only other new release in the top 20.

This week's Ultra HD Blu-ray report: None of this week's three releases were available on UHD. 5 out of this week's top 10 had a UHD edition.

'Long Shot' got 48.50%, while 'The Intruder' got 38.78%.

                              Top 10:

Blu-ray sales rose slightly this week thanks to the release of Pokémon Detective Pikachu. It easily outsold everything else during the week, including (distant) second place new release, and Blu-ray exclusive, Batman: Hush.

The next new release was The Curse of La Llorona in 7th place.

Out of the top 20, the crowdfunded and Blu-ray exclusive What We Left Behind: Looking Back at 'Star Trek: Deep Space Nine' finished in 13th, while Poms finished in 18th.

This week's Ultra HD Blu-ray report: Out of this week's new releases, 'Pokémon Detective Pikachu' and 'Batman: Hush' were both available on UHD. 5 out of this week's top 10 had a UHD edition.

The complete top 10 chart is below (new releases in bold, Blu-ray exclusives are denoted by *, UHD releases denoted by +):
                              1. Pokémon Detective Pikachu+

                              5. Captain Marvel+
                              6. Hellboy+
                              7. The Curse of La Llorona
                              8. UglyDolls
                              9. Long Shot
                              10. The Lion King

'Pokémon Detective Pikachu' had the best BD sales share out of the previously mentioned new releases for the week, with a BD sales share of 66.05%.

This beat 'The Curse of La Llorona' with 49.60% and 'Poms' with 40.45%.

The other two releases were both Blu-ray exclusives, which obviously meant that they had a BD sales share of 100%.

Looking at UHD sales share performances, 'Batman: Hush' beat 'Pokémon Detective Pikachu' with 14.26% vs 13.25%, both good results.

And let's not forget that 'Pokémon Detective Pikachu' had a 3D Blu-ray edition, which got a 3D sales share of just 1.00%. Yeah, I know, why do they still bother (although 3D fans will disagree - I guess it's kind of nice that some studios are continuing to serve an increasingly niche clientele).

                                Top 10:

Blu-ray sales more than doubled compared to the previous week thanks to the release of mega-blockbuster Avengers: Endgame on Blu-ray and other disc formats (check out some bonus features from the Blu-ray release, including Bloopers & Outtakes, Deleted Scenes and this Featurette).

It was so dominant, that it outsold last week's number one, 'Pokémon Detective Pikachu', by more than an 18-to-1 ratio on Blu-ray.

Disney also chose to re-release some of the earlier Marvel Cinematic Universe movies on 4K for the first time, including Iron Man in 7th, Thor in 12th, Iron Man 2 in 13th, Iron Man 3 in 14th, and Thor: The Dark World in 15th.

Those looking to grab all of the Avengers movies in a collector's edition boxset managed to do so in great enough numbers to get the set to rank 17th.

An interesting note regarding the 'Endgame' Blu-ray release - a DVD version has not been included in the combo, meaning those that need the standard definition version will have to buy the DVD-only edition (which, for now, Disney hasn't yet stopped production of). This could be a sign of things to come though as studios start to realise that Blu-ray/DVD combos are no longer that attractive to consumers who really only need the Blu-ray and Digital versions. Another nail in the DVD coffin.

Another interesting take from all of this is that given how huge 'Endgame' was at the box office, I mean it is literally the biggest movie ever, whether that translated to a record-breaking Blu-ray sales a result. It did not. Take another big release, 'Star Wars: A Force Awakens'. While this first of the new Star Wars trilogy movie was easily beaten by 'Endgame' at the box office, the Blu-ray for the Star Wars movie was originally released in April 2016 when Blu-ray was still near its peak. For that week, Blu-ray sales grew to more than $90 million, much higher than this week's $57 million or so. The take from this? Revenue from disc sales isn't what it used to be, with many of the same sales going to digital, while other consumers are willing to wait a bit longer for the eventual streaming release (this time on Disney's own platform, Disney+). There's also the situation with decreasing prices, and hence decreasing profits, for discs in general.

With such a big release happening, it made sense for other notable releases to avoid having to compete, and so it was all the way down to the 11th place for the next new release, Shadow.

Unplanned got a 16th place finish to round off the new releases in the top 20.

Blu-ray market share almost reached 63% this week off the back of 'Endgame' and the Marvel 4K re-releases.

This week's Ultra HD Blu-ray report: Other than the Marvel 4K re-releases, 'Avengers: Endgame' and 'Shadow' were both made available on UHD. 9 out of this week's top 10 had a UHD edition.

The complete top 10 chart is below (new releases in bold, Blu-ray exclusives are denoted by *, UHD releases denoted by +):
                                1. Avengers: Endgame+
                                2. Pokémon Detective Pikachu+
                                3. Shazam!+
                                4. Captain Marvel+
                                5. *Batman: Hush+
                                6. Alita: Battle Angel+
                                7. *Iron Man+
                                8. Avengers: Infinity War+
                                9. The Curse of La Llorona
                                10. Hellboy+

Since no new DVD editions of the earlier Marvel movies that received 4K editions were released at the same time, I will be counting these as "Blu-ray exclusives" for sales share purposes. So apart from these releases, 'Avengers: Endgame' actually had the best BD sales share of 79.83%.

'Shadow' did well on Blu-ray too, with a BD sales share of 71.41%.

'Unplanned' managed only 20%, but perhaps that's reasonable considering its targeted audience.

For UHD sales share performances, 'Avengers: Endgame' managed 24.60%, with 'Shadow' not too far behind with '19.26%'.

The stats for the week ending August 18, 2018 are as follows. Some small adjustments to the data posted last year (based on more recent updates) have been made and are shown below.

                                DVD: $39.34 million
If the results this week didn't seem that out of the ordinary compared to results from the same week last year, it's because that week also featured a big release - another Avenger movie in the form of 'Avengers: Infinity War'.

Blu-ray sales increased by $3.14m (up 5.8%), with unit sales up 1.2%.

DVD sales decreased by $5m (down 12.7%), with unit sales down 16.8%.

This meant $1.86 million less in combined revenue for the week.

Blu-ray's market share increased from 57.92% to 62.52%.
