Yes, for most weeks DVD revenue will be greater than Blu-ray. Only in weeks where there are big releases or big Blu-ray sales, does this change.

        Stats:

For the week ending March 12, 2022, here are the stats:

        Percentage of revenue (MPN):
        Blu-ray vs DVD: 35.79% vs 64.21%

Blu-ray sales total spending: $12.39 million
DVD sales total spending: $22.23 million

These stats are available from here:

        Media Play News

        Top 10:

Blu-ray revenue improved slightly off of last week's near historical lows, thanks to the release of top-seller The Matrix Resurrections. The 4-movie collection, dubbed The Matrix 4-Film Déjà vu Collection, came 20th.

The new "Matrix" movie easily outsold the number two Blu-ray seller, which was also a new release, Yellowstone: Season 4. It's worth noting that when DVD sales were added in, the two titles swapped positions on that chart, suggesting that "Yellowstone" was far more popular on DVD than on Blu-ray.

The next set of new releases were outside of the top 10. Paramount's straight to streaming movie Coming 2 America finally arrives on Blu-ray, and it came 12th.

Supergirl: The Sixth and Final Season was 14th. A Journal for Jordan was 19th.

This week's Ultra HD Blu-ray report: Only "The Matrix Resurrections" and the 4-movie collection were available on 4K. 9 titles out of this week's top 10 had UHD editions.

The complete top 10 chart is below (new releases in bold, Blu-ray exclusives are denoted by *, UHD releases denoted by +):
        1. The Matrix Resurrections+
        2. Yellowstone: Season 4
        3. Encanto+
        4. Ghostbusters: Afterlife+
        5. The King’s Man+
        6. Eternals+
        7. American Underdog+
        8. Dune: Part 1+
        9. No Time to Die+
        10. Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City+

Blu-ray, Ultra HD Blu-ray Sales Share:

For a particular title, the BD sales share is the percentage of disc packages sold for this title that contained the film's Blu-ray edition (including combos, and Ultra HD editions). So a BD sales share of 60% indicates that 60% of disc packages sold for this particular film contained the Blu-ray edition for this film, and so anything over 50% means that the Blu-ray version of the film was more popular than the DVD version.

"The Matrix Resurrections" managed a BD sales share of 66.92%, just slightly ahead of the 64.48% earned by "Coming 2 America".

"Supergirl: The Sixth and Final Season" managed 41.78%. "A Journal for Jordan" got 34%.

On 4K, "The Matrix Resurrections" managed a UHD sales share of 22.75%. "The Matrix 4-Film Déjà vu Collection" got a UHD sales share of 14.81%.

        DVD: $23.67 million
Another "all red" week (see last week for an explanation of what this is). The state of physical media is best summed by the fact that the week in which a new Matrix movie was released, it failed to beat a week in which the top-selling new release was Vanguard.

Blu-ray sales decreased by $1.20m (down 8.8%), with unit sales down 24.5%.

DVD sales decreased by $1.44m (down 6.1%), with unit sales down 21.7%.

This meant $2.64 million less in combined revenue for the week.

          Top 10:

Despite the release of a major Steven Spielberg film and Oscar nominee, Blu-ray sales almost fell to their lowest level in more than a decade.

West Side Story only came second in any case, behind last week's top-seller, "The Matrix Resurrections".

The next new release was all the way down in 14h. Red Rocket was just ahead of the Blu-ray only Dream a Little Dream and the 4K only release of The Sword and the Sorcerer.

Despite this healthy mix of new releases, Blu-ray revenue was barely above $11 million.

This week's Ultra HD Blu-ray report: Other than the 4K only release of "The Sword and the Sorcerer", "West Side Story" was the only other new release with a 4K edition. 9 titles out of this week's top 10 had UHD editions.

It was actually "Red Rocket" that had the best BD sales share, 82.60%. "West Side Story" did well with 67.27%.

"West Side Story" did well on 4K as well, with a 4K UHD sales share of 39.54%.

            Top 10:

The 50th-anniversary of "The Godfather" means we have a new edition of the The Godfather Trilogy, and in 4K as well. It was the top-seller on Blu-ray for the week.

Nightmare Alley was in 4th place, while Dexter: New Blood was 10th.

That was all in terms of new releases, but so it barely had an effect on Blu-ray revenue compared to last week's low.

This week's Ultra HD Blu-ray report: "Nightmare Alley" was available on 4K, but "Dexter: New Blood" was not. 8 titles out of this week's top 10 had UHD editions.

On 4K, "Nightmare Alley" did really well with a 44.88% UHD sales share, but it wasn't as good as the 77.96% for "The Godfather Trilogy".

              Top 10:

Blu-ray revenue inched up again thanks to the release of Sing 2. It was so popular (or the rest of the titles were selling so little), that even the second most popular Blu-ray of the week was the Sing 2-Movie Pack. "The Matrix Resurrections" fell to a very distant third place.

Marry Me in 6th place was the next new release.

From the Warner archives comes The Wonderful World of the Brothers Grimm with its innovative "Smilebox" aspect ratio, and it was 15th. And finally in 20th, we have the Criterion Collection 4K and Blu-ray release of The Last Waltz.

This week's Ultra HD Blu-ray report: "Sing 2" and "The Last Waltz" were both made available on 4K. 7 titles out of this week's top 10 had UHD editions.

A bit of an unfair comparison to the same week last year, which saw both "Wonder Woman 1984" get released and the pre-Easter sales period (which usually sees a bump in sales).

                Top 10:

Blu-ray revenue improved slightly thanks to the release of the new Scream movie and the continued strong selling of "Sing 2".

Death on the Nile, in 4th place, was the next new release.

Then it was all the way in 14th for the next new release, Doctor Who: Tom Baker - Complete Season Six.

                  Stats:

For the week ending April 16, 2022, here are the stats:

                  Percentage of revenue (MPN):
                  Blu-ray vs DVD: 53.65% vs 46.35%

Blu-ray sales total spending: $26.37 million
DVD sales total spending: $22.78 million

These stats are available from here:

                  Media Play News

                  Top 10:

It's the pre-Easter sales bump again, where sales rise due to pre-Easter sales. And it also happens to be a week where a major A-list release was present, so double the bonus.

That A-list title was Spider-Man: No Way Home, outselling everything in its wake. In fact, the closest title that got to it was the newly released MCU Spider-Man 3-Movie Collection in second place. Still, "Spider-Man: No Way Home" sold 15 times more copies than the 3-movie collection.

The 4K re-release of RoboCop was the next new release, coming in at 6th. Then it was all the way down to 19th for the next new release, Chucky: Season One.

Easter 2021 happened a few weeks earlier, with Blu-ray recording $22.02 million in sales and DVD with $30.63 million. This meant that Blu-ray sales were up 19.8%, but DVD sales were down 25.6%. Total sales were up $3.5 million, which is encouraging given the recent string of losses. And for the first time in a while, Blu-ray sales were higher than DVD sales for the week.

This week's Ultra HD Blu-ray report: "Spider-Man: No Way Home" was available on 4K, but not the MCU 3-Movie pack. "Chucky: Season 1" was not available on 4K. 9 titles out of this week's top 10 had UHD editions.

The complete top 10 chart is below (new releases in bold, Blu-ray exclusives are denoted by *, UHD releases denoted by +):
                  1. Spider-Man: No Way Home+
                  2. *Spider-Man 3-Movie Collection
                  3. Sing 2+
                  4. Scream+
                  5. Encanto+
                  6. *RoboCop+
                  7. The Matrix Resurrections+
                  8. Death on the Nile+
                  9. Ghostbusters: Afterlife+
                  10. Venom: Let There Be Carnage+

"Spider-Man: No Way Home" had the best BD sales share out of the non Blu-ray exclusive releases, with a BD sales share of 77.40%. "Chucky: Season One" managed 49.70%.

On 4K, "Spider-Man: No Way Home" had a 4K sales share of 30.72%.

Not a fair comparison, with a big release in the new "Spider-Man" film PLUS the pre-Easter sales bump up against, erm, "Willy's Wonderland".

Blu-ray sales increased by $14.12m (up 115.2%), with unit sales up 70.5%.

DVD sales increased by $1.02m (up 4.7%), with unit sales down 13.4%.

                    Top 10:

Weekly Blu-ray sales dropped by almost half compared to last week, but this was expected, as we've just entered the post-Easter sales lull.

The revenue drop happened despite there being a couple of new releases, including the top-selling of these new releases, Jackass Forever. It only sold enough copies to take third place on the Blu-ray sales chart.

The next new release was the Best Buy exclusive SteelBook 4K edition of The Cabin in the Woods.

In 6th place was the 4K SteelBook release of Heavy Metal/Heavy Metal 2000.

Rounding out the new releases in the top 10 was Cyrano in 9th.

Outside of the top 10, we have the SteelBook releases of The Tale of the Princess Kaguya and Only Yesterday in 17th and 19th respectively.

This week's Ultra HD Blu-ray report: Other than the 4K exclusives, none of the other titles were made available on 4K. 7 titles out of this week's top 10 had UHD editions.

                      Top 10:

Roland Emmerich's Moonfall was the top-selling new release for the week, and the second most popular Blu-ray title overall. The Walmart exclusive Moonfall/Knowing was third.

The 70th-anniversary edition of Singin’ in the Rain, available on 4K only, was in 7th, and another 4K exclusive release was outside of the top 10, 12 Monkeys in 14th.

That was all in terms of new releases, and Blu-ray revenue fell back to historical lows once again.

An A-list release in the form of The Batman helped to raise Blu-ray revenue, but only slightly.

The new Batman movie was easily the top-seller for the week, outselling last week's number one, "Uncharted", by more than a 5-to-1 margin.

The next new release was X in 4th place.

Outside of the top 10, Studio 666 was in 12th, while 19th and 20th were also new releases, the 4K only Lifeforce and Wild Things.
