This is kind of a "Free" time for downloading movies/music/games/and other applicatons.

However, DRM technology is evolving. In some time, I think it is conceivable that illegal file sharing could be greatly reduced or possibly eliminated.

        Reduced...maybe.
        Eliminated...never.

As long as people can rip music/video/games/apps they will always spread it, the only question is whether or not it will cost money in the future.

lots of p2p filesharing networks that i have had in the past (eg. napster, morpheus...) are paying their customers . and hopefuly the ads will pay for enough of the cost. i just use an adblocker, like stopzilla, or just for kazaa "dietkazaa".

i think they will always be p2p/chat appz like mirc, icq, irc etc... as technology becomes better, so will methods of exchanging files. For e.g. when websites were closed down and the likes of napster, they were people opening more private FTP's (esp cos broadband is more popular) and hosting files on geocities, anglefire etc....

very informative article setarip. i heard something briefly that, the owners are not based in the USA, where the same laws do not apply, therefore them haveing a loop hole allowing them not to get sued. However it is said that this loop hole has been bypassed, and thus allowing Kazza to get done.

anyway, i don't like kazza anyway, cos virsus spread easily, and you are never really sure you are d/l the right file, cos of dodgy file names + discriptions. So i use appz like mIRC, dc++, irc etc...

I have been suffering from these liches for almost one-and-a-half year. Imagine being given 3GB for BOTH downloads and uploads every month, and being charged at an extravagant price beyond that allowance . . .

3gigs download/upload/month!??!?!? Oh my God, i dont think i should be complaining then... are you in australia by any chance? There, they charge 200$ (im serious) for every extra gig that you download...Here i have 6gig dl/5 gig ul/month, still bad, but sweet 3mbit speeds for a cheap price.

I am in Australia indeed. The extra charge isn't that bad though at around $140/extra GB (it's bad enough nevertheless). I'm thinking of changing ISP, but haven't got the time to do it nor is the process a convenient one (screw you, #######!!! [name has been withheld to protect business reputation] ).
