When you put it like that Khp I see your point.

it always seems to be BT though, I am not with them and have had no bother but BT users seem to be.

Suppose you just gotta live with it....LOL

If you only hosted and downloaded freeware via P2P, I'am quite sure you would not get enough traffic to get into trouble with BT.

ISP's and law enforcement in general are getting "tougher" on people who download copyrighted materials.

Yes i know they are doing what they can but my point is this, too many people are doing it now.

They can try to make examples of people when they do catch them but i don't think they will ever have any real impact, at least not while P2P is still legal.

Plus there's no way to stop P2P now, even if it was illegal....Or at least it will take years.

I have also had the problem. I use Bellsouth Fast Access Broadband internet service and whenever I open up Kazaa or any other p2p service it slows down my page d/l time by just about 75-90%. That is why I stoped using it!

yes, I did a simple test at www.bandwidthplace.com and I did a speed test with and w/o kazaa, it slowed it down from 2.8mbps to 1.2mbps!

You guys are missing the point and getting the wrong end of the stick....

It is obvious that when a P2P program is running it will use up bandwidth otherwise it wouldn't work.

What Bt Claim is that even after it is closed or even uninstalled it leaves clogging elements on your connection which slowly slow you to a stop.

Of course, this is a load of rubbish but its what they are saying.

Yes it is b/s because I can close the program and everything goes back to the normal 1.4mbps

After all there is no law saying they have to check what you do, if there was there would be no sick people getting kiddie porn, why don't they bother these people instead of us normal users downloading films and mp3's.
                      Not quite true I'm afraid.

By law in the UK (if not already then soon) ISPs will have to surrender a comprehensive list of websites that you have visited making it easier for police to nab the kiddie fiddlers. While they may be given the web site name, I don't think this extends to individual pages by default.
This is what we get for voting in tony.

How this extends to P2P usage I don't know. If they see the IP addresses you contact and link them to Kazaa (central server) or if they can find out the ports accessed then they may get an idea of what program is accessing them. I think Kazaa uses only one port, as does eDonkey.

Don't think that you're as protected as you might think.
The ISPs didn't like this as the amount of storage space it takes is no trivial amount and gets very expensive. The police on the other hand, don't have to pay a penny to see you've been flicking through hardcore pornsites.
The good news is that the ISPs don't have to monitor and screen, only record your travels for when the police want them.

I don't quite understand who this is directed at....

If its something I said, well i'm only quoting what BT stated to a very reliable source I know, They knew he was using KaZaA and knew he was using WinMX. Thats all i know, they also blamed these programs for slowing down his connection perminently until they could unblock it. I don't believe this at all and was interested in others views on the matter.

They also warned him not to use P2P and that is all i can Quote them on.

                        Steve........

                          Yeah, sorry.
It's from a post on an eariler page.
Just wanted to point it out the security issue though.
You're right about BT- they don't care what you download, only how big it is and P2P accounts for a huge amount of traffic.

The only way they can usefully tackle P2P at the moment is either by download caps or by blocking ports.

For £14.99 you can get broadband but at severely capped rates. No more than 6 hours per 24 hrs, and a max download cap too!
                          Cheap but unserviceable.

Well I just did a test with eMule and I was running 6mbps before and after 15 minutes of running eMules I was running at 14kbps
