Interesting story about a man nearly losing his head over his hobby...

Oh dear, im glad i sold mine then by the looks of it. They are very dangerous. Flying the kite was great fun, until i did a nose dive from a bout 200 feet and smacked straight into a huge boulder on the beach. It was fun though and a new fibre glass rod will fix it

A guy told me he deliberately crashes his into the sand on the beach so they won't blow away in the wind while he retrieves them. But sand isn't boulders. I met him as he strafed my dogs with his kite...they loved it...and I had to make sure they didn't eat his kite after he landed.

lol - im sure the dog wouldve loved that. I have found a way to hover it down slowly and touch down gently on any surface, and i can even get it to lift off without going near it. However, to do that it needs constant wind, gusts can be a real pain.

And when you have constant wind you have to anchor it solidly...which is why he plants it hard in the beach sand.

Actually, i found with mine, as long as you point it away from the wind it doesnt rake off. But just incase a get a tent peg and peg the main line
