i'm gonna have to check that planet terror out. haven't heard of it or seen previews. death proof is quentin's flick w/kurt russel right? can't go wrong w/quentin. remember reservoir dogs. he had a hand in hostel also. pulp fiction was great.

hitcher got my vote. that scene where he splits that guy up is horrendous.

yeh you're probably right about american gansta. the only true cult classic gansta flick is scarface w/pacino. he always did his own thing. a shame they took so long to give him an academy award. he could of bagged 1 for dog day afternoon, definitely the godfather and maybe an argument for serpico.

have you seen that eastcoast gansta flic? i forgot the exact name.looks pretty decent.

fracture w/anthony hopkins i thought was good also.

aside from the fighting scenes, a history of violence was garbage. i might as well given my $10.50 to some needy fellow on the subway or something.

don't forget about the departed. what a cast. they really pulled that one off really good.

oh yeah talking about sequels i forgot to mention the 3 final destination flics. kept my attention through all 3.

I wasn't much of a fan of the Final Destination movies, for some reason they didn't do it for me.If your in to Asian horror you may like Ichi the Killer. This movie surprised the hell out of me I do have to warn people that this is a very disturbing movie. But yet it had a great story that kept you interested form beginning to end.I am a big fan of the director Takashi Miike and if your looking for shocking horror flicks this guy seems to deliver.Speaking of Takashi Miike he made a great flick in The Masters Of Horror series called Imprint. You should also check out the whole Masters Of Horror series it is horror directors at their best IMHO

I've only seen the original SAW and I keep meaning to watch the others but I hope they don't make too many because too many sequels can go too far. I must admit, I love the FRIDAY THE 13th films and the HALLOWEEN films but the sequels go on and on and they fade and give the original of whatever film a bad name. With the A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET films, I prefer them from one to three. Freddy in one of the sequels acted like a comedian and he's supposed to be frightening.

                Re-makes

I was told the re-make to THE HITCHER is a pile of rubbish. Why do so many people have to re-make films? No wonder a lot of actors and actresses go into other work because they think the Hollywood film industry is going way downhill because the scripts don't interest a lot of them anymore. A lot of the older stars, we don't seem to see them much anymore because they must be writing or doing another line of work. This problem started about in 1996.

LT. I have to agree with you there but.....

                    I loved Halloween 1, 2 and 4
as for Friday the 13th, also loved 1,2,3, and 4

After that those movies bacome way to predicatable and no longer scarey.
                    But still entertaining I thought.

Same thing with Nightmare on elm street. part 1 and 2 pretty good after that the downslide began with that one too.

For Halloween 3 though that was just plain stupid and not anything to do with the whole Mike Myers theme. I guess thats why you dont see that one on dvd in the rentals or stores. LOL

I do love the Mike and Jason charactors though and I must say the idea of them can be scarey and we have the costumes for them both.
We didnt go trick or treating this year as my son is now too old and way too cool for that. So I dressed up as Mike and my son as Jason and we had fun scaring the pants off the trick or treaters that came to out house. LOL

Long dark road no street lights lots of tree, windy night the atmospher was perfect for it. Lots of trees to hind behind. LMFAO it was a blast.

Michael Myers seemed to scare more of the kids then Jason did. LOL We also had the theme music from both halloween and friday the 13th playing in the background from my sons cd player it was a blast.

And yes we did give good treats to all the kids... they needed it after the halloween scare. LOL

a lot of times a big buildup for a movie with a stellar cast/production crew leaves you let down

American Gangster was everything I thought it might be and more, definitely gonna be a keeper when it's released on dvd. Should be interesting to see how it does at the box office and with the academy. Crowe and Washington were a real treat to watch, Denzel as the bad guy, and Russel as the semi-bumbling good guy.

This is not a movie for the feint of heart, sometimes reality can be scarier than the gore of fakey horror flicks, kind of like people that were afraid to see Mr Brooks or Fracture, but love something like Saw4.

Well put Chewy, I saw it last night and loved it! Denzel is one of my favorite actors and I always enjoy his movies, but I sure wasn't disappointed with this one.

What hit home for me was one of my high school buddies, a guy that took me to midnight mass and had shared a few beers(very few) in high school, went over before this time frame, he came back talking about how great heroin was and got stationed in wash state where he could "inspect" the troops coming home, last I heard he got in a little trouble. One of the lesser known impacts of the war.

American Gangster is one I have not watched yet sounds like that may be a good one to take a time out for.

American Gangster was very good. I also thought the remake of The Hitcher was excellent, but you just can't beat Rutger Hauer as the bad guy in the original.
