setarip - A Tribute

setarip, the top poster on this forum, has retired from this forum and will no longer be posting here. There are no particular reasons for this, but perhaps it was just the right time to part ways and seek new challenges, after so many years of service to this forum. While it is sad to be losing a long time member like setarip, but instead of thinking about the great loss to this forum, I think it would be better to pay a little tribute to the member with nearly 25000 posts.

setarip was one of the first regular member of this forum, way back in 2001. He has been a keen contributor to the forum, and has regularly provided valuable feedback and has done all he can to try and ensure this forum's standards. He has helped so many people with so many problems, it's hard to imagine how much work he has put into this forum.

I suspect many members will miss setarip's presence on the forum, and the forum itself would definitely miss his contributions. So here's to setarip, may he enjoy the free time he has now earned for himself, and succeed at whatever challenges that now face him.

I remember when I first found this forum and registred as a member.

The problem I had was a very common one. The playback skipped and gave pixelations. Searching the forum and reading postings from you on similar problems gave me a clue and a solution to the problem - change stand alone player. When you have a problem and you don't really know how to solve it and then finds a solution that works out from you - is something you never forget.

After the initial stage of pure confusion to this new world of how to backup a DVD and reading yours and other members always very knowledged replies in the threads - gave me a base to be able to understand the whole thing and after some time gave me a chance to 'pay back' and help other new members who had DVD backup problems.

My entrance in the DVD backup world was rather late so I was never active during the DivX, VCD - and all other formats used at that time - for the CD movie creation time.

I have a feeling that it must have been a very interesting journey for you to have explored all that have happend to the very basic question - 'How do I backup my DVD' - all the tools that have been developed during those years and also all the different solutions you can apply. From the introduction of CD burners for home computers to the current models of DVD burners.

So I want to thank you for all the stimulating discussions we have had over the past years and all the 'testings' on why someting don't work or even don't works as we would expect it to do. Funny thing - but programs have a habit to to do that sometimes.

That's the real nice thing when you do backup's of your DVD's - there is always something new to learn and to explorer. I know that I will always meet new challenges in the DVD backup world.

It was a real pleasure to have had the advantage to meet you and also the benefit of learning a lot from you over these years.

Take good care of yourself and I am sure that your posted knowledge will be a constant goldmine to explorer for persons interested in the world of DVD.

being members of this forum for many years now, we have shared good times as well as bad times while spending our time on digital video conversion - its pleasures and its perfidies.

contributing helpful replies just as often as expressing ones assessment of how to deal with certain contents posted is time consuming, exhilerating and of course fatigueing.

it is understood that retiring from this *full time job* is necessary sooner or later in order to challenge new aspects of life - such as keeping up with modern day programming skills for example.
