    Any wireless experts about?

I have been trying since Friday to get wireless networking sort out between three computers.

I have wireless Internet working wonderfully. I have a Belkin ADSL router on my main computer (Win XP with SP2) and a Belkin USB wireles adapter on a another computer (Win ME). I also have a new laptop with built in wireless (Win XP weith SP2).

I would like if possible be able to stream wirelessly from the main computer to the laptop such as DVD's and MP3's. However, they don't see each other.

I have gone through the network wizard countless times trying different ways.

At the moment the Laptop has both it and the main computer in "My Network Places" under workgroup computers. If If I click on the main computer I get a "don't have permission" error. There is nothing in "My Network Places" on the main computer.

Both have firewalls that have been configured for their own hardware and the Win XP firewall has been disabled.

    Any ideas?

I too have the same problem. I just haven't had time to mess around with it yet though.

What wireless manufacturer are you using?

I am not that bothered as the Internet was more important. For the last couple of years I have been pulling wires when someone wanted to use the Win ME computer on the Net.

I spent 2 days just getting the router working. I had the LAN disabled in the BIOS.

        Linksys

Both can connect to the internet. Main computer cannot connect the 2nd PC though, but 2nd PC can connect to main computer. Everytime I try and connect to the 2nd computer from the Main, I get I don't have access to it and/or it want me to enter a id and password.

A fiend had trouble with his router not seeing his laptop. I dont know the whole story, but a Tech guy suggested upgrading firmware for router and it did the trick.

Jmet, create the same user accounts and passwords on both machines, and log on to windows with the same user account on both. If using win xp firewall let port 139(windows filesharing port) have acsess.

Do you think that will work for me. I setup the new laptop with a different user name (no password on either computer).

Didn't work. It now comes up as the main computer being unaccessible.

Quickly try it logged on as guest(with no password) on all machines.

Sorry i cant help anymore. As i found out there are a hundred and one possibilities. Obviously they can see each other on the network to share internet access, but not for file sharing/streaming. Could be a firewall issue, port 139 or encryption prob. Whatever it is, best of luck.

The laptop cannot see the main computer as it only uses the router for net access. I can switch of the main computer and still get net access on the other two computers

                          Thanks anyway.

I also started thinking. I wonder if there is a limit to the number of computers allowed to use the router.

For what its worth I was just at Linksys site for a firmware update and depending which router you have many updates delt with wireless lan networking and net access. Might want to check it out.
