    Program, mod chip recomendations? PS2

Has anyone had any experience with any of the game copying programs out there (stupid question)? Any recomendations? Also, mod chip vs. swap disk / pros & cons. Thanx!

Hi there, need some help. Managed to backup a PS2 game onto hardrive using DVD Decrypter in ISO read, I now want to put on a disc. On my C Drive I have two files, one a mds file and the other an iso file. Which one do I choose? Sorry, trying this for the first time, not sure what I am doing. Thanks, Nichola.

Choose the .mds file to burn.

You need a modchip installed in your PS2 for tha game to play. I take it you have one?

Thanks for the help. Just a bit confused, as I was browsing through the forum and other posts suggest writing the ISO file. Why does Decrypter have two files (iso and mds), what is the difference. Sorry to be a nuisance, but I am trying to understand what I am doing here. Thanks for the help. Nichola.

if its a single layer disc you are writing to then you can choose either/ or. , providing your hdd is NTFS
the .mds file is more important if you are burning to dual layer or have a fat32 file system.
the difference between the two files is size for one thing, the iso will be GB whereas the .mds will be KB .
the .mds file contains the layer break info when burning dual layer and info about how the files are separated on fat32 systems

You need a modchip for your PS2 console.

                    Get them here: http://www.modchip.com/ps2/

I use swap magic as well..but I took apart my old playstation and made it into a flip top as opposed to using the slide card but what it does is you first put in the swap magic disc which boots up then with the slide card (or flip top) you open the tray. It must be said do not use the open tray button as this resets the ps2. When you use the tool to open the tray you put in your backed up game close the tray hit 'X' on the controller and the game will boot up. Very simple to do...I did find the tool a bit of a hassle tho which is why I just took apart my ps2...

The clear bottom discs are DVD-Rom games and as you already know DVDD can handle these with no bother at all. The coloured discs (blue etc) are CD-Rom games, like Lego Star Wars - for these you will need a program like Alcohol 120% and then from the drop down menu's you are able to select PS2 game as the file type.

Going back even further I have my PS2 chipped - no problems at all and for me much easier than the swap disk method in terms of playing the games.

Finally, there are very few DVD9 PS2 games but the one I do own Gran Turismo4 it's not, in my experience possible to back up and then play on a PS2 as the game is a Parallel Track Path game (PTP) and burners burn Opposite Track Path (OTP).

I believe there are various ways round this now and if you are serious about backing such games up I would try a Google search !
