either the reform applies only to VCR's (not PVR/DVR/DVB-T pci cards), or they're implying australia is very far behind in this area of technology

Hmmm... that has been legal here forever. I wish copying DVDs was legal though... there is some issue with decrypting CSS, even for personal use. I do it anyway, since I own the DVDs, I figure if the government comes around, I can just put all the backups in a big garbage bag and throw it away somewhere

this thread better not create a new rule that we can't discuss recorded tv shows here. i capture, record and burn 2-3 hours of television that I PAY FOR everyday.

only captured downunder, pretty sure the US supreme court decided after they had all been breaking the law it was kind of an embarrasment to not allow time shifting.

I, for one, don't tape TV shows and haven't for years. Don't own a DVD Recorder either (can't be buggered to edit out the ads), plus I like the real thing.

I am not saying not to discuss this subject.

Don't feel bad Lt. I don't have a dvd recorder. Not that I want one. Since the dvd player was invented I just buy the dvds. I mean why record tv shows when they will be released to dvd within months after the season ends.

the reason for me is:

1) cheapness

2) "cheers" don't have season 7, 8, 9, 10 and 11 on dvd yet(only up to 6)

Yeah that is a bummer waiting for all the seasons, but they are starting to get them out pretty fast.

really gets me fired up some of these old tv shows that nobody liked are on dvd and a popular NBC show here in N.A. like night court has only season 1 and no announcement of season 2 yet. i'd love to capture them, but will they show it on tv? of course not!
