IBM PCjr. King's Quest was the first game (to my knowledge) that your character could move in front of and in back of other objects. Loved that game! I still have my PCjr. I think it still probably works too.

I'm sorry I lied. I can't give rep points to chewy until I spread more peanuts around.

I gave him rep points on your behalf . It's hard to believe we got along with that small amount of memory. Was it Bill Gates that said "640k ought to be enough for anybody."?

Heheh... I was happy when I upgraded my 286 12Mhz to a 16Mhz, then found some vendor selling DIP Chip memory at a bargain of a price... got me up to 1Meg of ram so I could use that nifty dos=high, umb feature. Them were the days!

I figure at least 15- 20 k over the years. I have 2 desktops and 1 laptop for myself, one for my son and 1 for my daughter in their bedroom.

I know I have spent Other too,
Computer were a lot more expensive years ago so the $$$$ spent on computers will be higher then the younger generation.

I have had computers built for my dad and my son as well as upgrading and building new for myself as the technology changes.

I know I have spent at least 12 to 15 grand if not more.

my 486/66 mhz cost me $2495 + $650 for printer and $800 for cd burner bundle (Texel) now Plextor. iirc Texel merged with another company (can't remember the name)and the name became Plextor.

Does this include the Commodore stock I bought before the Amiga came out, that tanked soon after?

I'm surprised to hear that the stock tanked after the Amiga. It was a great computer. I was very close to buying a 2000.

I know since my wife has reminded me that I ve spent about $15k

My first computer was an Apple II+ w/ the monochrome (green) 13' Monitor and Dual 5.25" floppies. Dad paid like $4k for that thing

Next up was a Ti-99 ? barely remember that thing

Then I had the ever famous Trash Tandy TRS-80 with the portable casseste drive w/ 100s of games that I had to write the basics commands out for, hehe

After which, I was in heaven when my pa got an original IBM PC w/ an Insmell 8088 PC what was truely killer about this rig was the massive 20 MB hard drive, dual floppies and a color monitor and the awesome IBM keyboard, which I still have

1988/89ish, Then we got a 386SX with 2 - 512K Mem sticks and a math co processor! I was tearin up the strip wit that bad boy

1992, For High School Graduation my dad bought me a ultra killer rig a Gateway 2000 FULL tower case with dual PSU's 486DX2/66 with 16MBs of RAM, an ATI Video Card for 3D graphics 512k of onboard video ram (an extra $1k), a huge 340 MB HD, a SBlaster Pro card, and the brand new AutoCAD release 12 (since I was going to UIC for Architecture) later on we got an original NEC external, since thats all they had a first, CD burner with upto 2x writes and 4x reads, and NEC's own proprietary CD's in the tray, and its was a SCSI-2 ? drive. Finally I topped it off an external 2 GB SCSI-? HD drive I was tearing up X-wings in Tie-Figther in style

from about 1995 - 1998 didnt touch a comp, which I call the medeval years

1999, gots me a NEC Pent II w/ MMx technology, 17' Monitor, 64 MBs RAM, 20 GB? HD later added a SB card and a VooDoo 3 video card

2000, built my first AMD Athlon rig using the NEC as a basis got a ABIT Mobo that turned out to be a POS and ABIT wouldnt do anything about it

since then I have spent thousands of dollars upgrading here and there building well over 100s of rig for friends and family

and several for myself mainly cheap as possible rigs to simulate a network for practicing for my CCNA and a cheesy server for my MCSE in Win 2000

my main rig now is a AMD Barton 2500, ATI Radeon 9800 Pro, Promise SX4000 RAID Card w/ 128 ECC PC166 RAM, 1 GB OCZ Ram, MSI K7N2G-ILSR mobo, Enermax 465 PSU, a nice Kingwin Case, with tons of Glowing crap in it, and topped of with a Koolance Exos water cooler for CPU/GPU

Coming attractions include a new case (unsure what one), AMD Athlon 64 X2 CPU, MSI K8N Diamond Plus, min of 2GB of Corsiar Pro RAM, a nVidia 7800GTX, or dual 7800GT's, PC Power & Cooling's 850W PSU, and prolly a new Koolnace Exos-2 Water cooler and dual 21/22" Monitors

All I remember TNT, is I bought the stock at $11 and sold at $6, I dont think it ever recovered, the Amiga was a great computer from what I remember, but was ahead of its time, and most commodore fans couldnt afford it.
Of course this was 20 years ago when they first bought Amiga
