Trying my best to not give up results of last nights UFC 61. Wanderlai Silva is coming back to the UFC to fight Chuck Liddell for Light Heavyweight championship. Silva has been dominating Pride over in Japan and i think this will be an excellent fight. Silva is not going to try to take Liddell down he will probably want to trade bombs. Silva won't be able to use his famous soccer kicks and stomps if Liddell goes down. Liddell for once might not be the better striker. I can't wait till november.
This matchup begged me to ask why are other top fighters in Pride not in UFC. Mirko Cro-Cop vs Tim Sylvia would be an awesome fight. Arlovski vs Nogueria or Fedor. Great style matchups in my opinion and we could find out what orginization is top right now.
BTW does anyone know where i can view the Tito Ortiz vs Wanderlai Silva fight at UFC Japan 3. I see clips of Wanderlai landing strikes and Tito retreating, but want to find out how Tito pulled out that victory. pretty crappy link but best i could find without having to pay.

Without giving the results away, I was thouroughly dissappointed. That is the first I'd heard of Silva and Ortiz fighting...I know that Pride is coming to Vegas in Sept. and can't wait, although the U.S. restrictions may take away from the excitement a little from the soccer kicks. I can't wait, Silva last showing when he knocked out "ironhead" was amazing.

Lidell vs. Silva!! Sounds like a good one. Ortiz beat one and the other 'beat' Ortiz, literally . Should be a great fight, which I think Lidell will win.

I'll put my money on Silvia......he's an axe murderer you know.

This was his last fight vs. Kazuyuki "Ironhead" Fujita.....Silva stepped up to fight a heavyweight who had never been stopped by strikes.

I could go on about this guy for days....my money is definately on him. Good luck Chuck.

I finally got to watch the Arlovski/Silva matchup on the rerun and was very dissappointed at that one too. It seems both fighters showed too much respect for the other and just did what they had to not to get hit and make it to a decision. They both looked a little lazy to me.

I would have to agree on the Joe Stevenson match as well, Joe looked good and I can't recall ever seeing that much blood in any other fight.

I'm still on the fence about silva vs Liddell. I've seen Wanderlai take on two top heavyweights Cro-cop and Fujita. He stopped Fujita and definetly won the fight against Cro-cop, (Special rules for K-1 fighters in Pride could not determine a winner). Liddell is a mad man, a great striker with impecable take down defense. I think Liddell could get frustrated if he doesn't land, but I don't think he can win a ground fight. Quickness and power advantage Silva okay thats my final pick Wanderlai Silva knockout.

Ditto.....This is becoming my favorite thread at DD.

Silva and Liddell have a common opponent in Quintin "Rampage" Jackson. Silva destroyed Jackson twice, while Jackson effectively dismantled Liddell.

I was just watching that video montage of silva, noticed Rampage Jackson as one of his victims and was going to post the same comment. too fast for me.

I will say that fighters do change. Silva has gotten progressively better since his loss to belfort. It's hard to believe he is the same fighter. I don't think Chuck has gotten that much better and i don't think their is a striker at 205 in the UFC as dangerous as Silva. Silva Ju-jitsu is top notch so i can't see the ground and pound as being a viable plan B for Chuck. To Chuck's credit Dana White had to bring in Silva because Chuck has been that effective at 205. I can see the fame aspect, the commercials the girls the TV shows taking fire away from Liddell. Silva needs to prove himself in the UFC after his less than stellar start. I only wish it were November tommorow.

                      Gotta love the american way.....lmao

One fighter I had higher hopes for was Mark Hunt. It made me sick to watch Josh Barnett twist his arm off on June 2. I'm not a big Barnett fan, but I am glad to see him doing well in Japan...I just didn't want to see him do so well against Hunt. lol

I think the only real standout in the UFC that would stand a chance in the Pride arena is Matt Hughes. I think the rest of the top fighter in the UFC wouldn't be able to keep up with the top fighters in Pride. My two cents.

Pride is just so much tougher. There aren't as many politics and i think fighters have more respect coming from pride. I agree with you i think pretty much the top 3 in every division of pride could be champion in UFC. Wanderlai is the most dominant in any division right now. It would be cool to see Matt Hughes in Pride. His work ethic and respect for fighting is just what Pride looks for in American fighters. Said it before, but would love to see Tim Sylvia fight Mirko Cro-Cop. Just to see Sylvia take one on the grill and drop. Sylvia talks like he can't get knocked out i want to see him against true power.

I'd like to see Fedor crack Silvia's jaw for him...and then stick around for a year to prove himself. Then I'd like to see Nogueira break his arm again and then Cro-Cop kick him in the head....

I also agree that Wanderlai Silva is a better fighter now than before and actually would like to see him win against Lidell. It's just that I bet against Lidell when he fought Ortiz and then again when he beat Courtier both times. Perhaps I haven't given Lidell due respect.

I still say that if Hughes was to fight BJ Penn again, he would lose his title again. Though Penn lost by decision to the St. Pierre guy, I think that he is the best at that weight and St. Pierre 'squeeked' it out even though he was the one who took the pounding.

Watched most of UFC 61 post fight press conference. Tito seems eager to challenge for 205 belt. (maybe he can make weight for his next fight)
THink Tito is pissed because he wanted a rematch with Liddell and Wanderlai just comes in and takes title shot. Dana says Wanderlai will probably do at least three fights.

Anyone think Ken Shamrock is gonna fight again?

With Silva entering the picture, Tito might have to settle for a third fight with Shamrock. He's already stated that he'd welcome another rematch and might be all he gets right now. I know he doesn't want any of Silva at this stage of his career.
