Don't forget about HD VHS and Hi-vision LD's!

I forgot about the high-res Laser Disc.
Humm. HD VHS, That's a new one for me. Any info or a link? Be interesting to see what I missed out on with that. Sounds cool though

Here's the best I could do. Obscure stuff I must admit.

Now that rings a few bells. Thanks TNT.
Anyone else remember the GD-Rom? Sega used it for the DreamCast. They still have GDR players in Japan and some new movies are available on the format.

Still, I'd like to get a list of video-playback formats, in some kind of FAQ form up on this website. If we could, oh, sorta hijack this thread, since it's all but dead now, anyway, get together a list dating back to V-tape (1970s) and the VHS/Beta wars, to the current HD wars. From what I've seen from traveling, there are at least 8 different HD formats out there now (only 3 in the US), and to archive this may eventually be useful down the line. Anyone else with me?
Thinking: Format, specs, size/length, tweaks/mods to change format output, et cetera. Hey, a joint publication posted on wikipedia and wikivideo?

I could pull together a list of everything on record (no pun intended) from Asia, North-Central Europe, and some archaic/off the wall stuff from our collection; things that never made if past the prototype stage.

Sounds ambitious. I will help where I can.

Hey, TNT, got anything on the DVT tapes of old? Can't find anything on Google, but I have one, so I KNOW they are real.

DVD stands for Digital Versatile/Video Disc, DVDR stands for DVD Recordable and DVDRW for DVD ReWriteable. A recordable DVD stores up to 2 hours of very good quality DVD-Video, including several audio tracks in formats like stereo, Dolby Digital or DTS and also advanced menu systems, subtitles and still pictures that can be played by many standalone DVD Players and most computer DVD-ROMs. It is also possible to have up to 4.37* GB ordinary data or mix DVD-Video and data on a recordable DVD that can be played by most computer DVD-ROMs.

                    Haha, both answers are right~~~

You're good, real good! Mine is larger, so I guess it's an earlier, er, version, Alright, I've got about 70 different formats, Now I'm pulling together pictures and then I'll write up some kind of FAQ or something and post it on me empty link-to page and let you all take a look and edit it as you see fit, then we can go from there. This may work out, in the end.
