What Do You Hate About TV?

In the UK, I hate all the non-stop repeats and there's also a number of channels showing the same things where we feel bombarded with the same things. The movie channels are the same. Some of the TV programmes and films are titles that I like but they go too far and nothing is new. There are so many other TV programmes that haven't been on Cable and Sky TV for years or not at all since Cable and Sky TV came out and I can't understand why they re-new the rights to show the same things again. If it's because of high demands then those people should buy those titles if they like them that much.

Some episodes of certain TV programmes have been repeated a couple of days later due to the odd blunders.

I like the Star Wars films, too but the movie channels are being stupid because at the moment we have a Star Wars film on nearly every day and this has gone on for about three weeks. When they've shown Return Of The Jedi they go back to The Phantom Menace again. When they started showing them again this year, they started the series with A New Hope. As we all know, A New Hope was the first made but not the first in the series. It was pointless started them halfway through the story. It's as dumb as reading a book started from chapter 15 and when you reach the end of the book it's time to go to chapter 1 until chapter 14 is read.

We also have a Star Wars on twice in one day on one movie channel and other Star Wars film on another movie channel.

Rocky 4 is only three times in one day over the weekend on the same channel.

We also have comdies on UKTV Drama and that channel is for dramas, not comedies. Quite a lot of channels here have names for a catagory of TV programmes and they never stick to it.

UKTV Gold and UKTV Drama never show any series' properly. We can be watching Series 1 of whatever, get halfway through Series 1 and they jump to an episode in Series 3 and then a few episodes to Series 2. I've complained to them about all that and they told me they'll note my complaint but they never improve things.

Now we have these TV quizzes where people phone in and guess the answer where it's hard to get through. Those quizzes are all over the place now like a virus and ITV1 used to have some good TV programmes on at night and now they all have been taken off for one of those stupid quizzes.

At night, all there is, is a big number of channels showing Poker for hours on end. Then, sometime ago when I thought it was bad, a Poker channel was launched for more Poker. I can't see the point in a channel launched for something that's already on everywhere, here. Bravo launched Bravo 2 about 5 weeks ago so that they can show what's already on Bravo and Bravo+1.

What's it like elsewhere in the world?

    Darren.

That way they can charge you for more channels, but give you nothing more

A lot of the channels are free but the movie channels that I mentioned are not free. The way things are going, I'm going to have my movie channels switched off to save money. I'm not sure whereabouts you are but encase you're not in the Britain, we have a channel called Film 4 and they used to charge for that. They had some good films on and they never had commercials in-between the films. They made the channel become a free one several months ago and it seemed OK to save money and one night when I was watching Sexy Beast there were commericals during the film in three parts. They do that with all the films now on that channel and all they've done is disturbed our viewing so that they can make money from the commercials. Of course, business is business but they don't care about what the public want. I can see their point of view in a way but I think they are out of order, too. I never bother with that channel anymore. One thing I can't stand and that's being disturbed from a film.

I like those two as well. John Cleese makes me laugh when he acts nutty in that series. It's a shame the BBC only made 12 episodes.

            TV License

For anyone that's not in Britain. We have to buy a TV license and it goes up another £5.00 a year. I can't remember off the top of my head how much mine is, it's about £135. If we get court without one we can face a fine running into thousands. This is because of the BBC to watch their channels and listen to their radio stations. About 70% of what they show is junk. They are showing a lot sport that drags on for hours and hours and a lot of stuff that's on Cable and Sky TV and this is what we're paying for. The license goes up and up in price and the BBC get worse and worse.

Don't you just hate it when something you've been looking forward to gets cancelled for a load of rubbish over a stupid reason?

During the last six years roughly, Christmas TV gets worse and worse, here.

            Darren.

MI 5 is great. Ultraviolet (the vampire mini series) was excellent also and that mini series about the Invasion of earth from those insect 5 dimensional beings who were harvesting humans for hormones.

Is that license separate from the cable service or thrown in with it. If it is separate you guys need a good old
American style revolution!!! When I was in England ( 1974 ) all you guys had was BBC1 and BBC 2 and ITV. I remember the TV's only having 3 channel buttons. I was extremely depressed but then discovered reading.

I haven't seen MI 5 or those other titles yet.

The TV licence has nothing to do with the ITV, Channel 4, Channel 5, Cable and Sky TV channels. By the way, 98% of what is on Sky TV is the same as the Cable. The Cable is from NTL and the Sky TV is under Sky TV itself.

The reason why the BBC charge for a licence is because they don't show commercials like other channels except for when they advertise their BBC products like DVDs and the Radio Times. The BBC make their money from the TV licence and the other channels make their money from the commercials.

It's beyond time for reality tv to give up the ghost. networks are grabbing at ridiculous crap (not that they weren't before) and things are only getting worse. It's called mimetic isomorphism. If presented with the opportunity to change, companies instead will copy one another. ie Diet Coke, Diet Pepsi, Cherry Coke, Cherry Pepsi, etc, etc. Seems no one has the temerity to give up reality tv. And please, no more doctor shows!

I always wondererd about that licence you need to watch tv, ever since I saw some brit-comedy (don't remember what one it was) and someone was worried that the law was going to go by scanning for signals and give out tickets, so the licence is seperate from the cable cost? so for free tv you still need to buy a licence? hmm that just seems wrong...I say if you are going to charge me just to have it then there should be no commercials! on by the way on the topic of brit comedys I loved Bottom and The Young Ones..low brow but so funny..I have Bottom on dvd buy can't find The Young Ones...

The TV license is seperate from Cable and Sky TV costs. The TV license is only for watching the BBC channels and listening to the BBC radio stations.

I like The Young Ones and Bottom. Have you seen Filthy Rich & Catflap starring Adrian Edmondson, Rik Mayall and Nigel Planer? That's another old British comedy. It's good but The Young Ones and Bottom are better. Have you seen the Comic Strip films starring Adrian Edmondson, Rik Mayall, Nigel Planer and Peter Richardson? Those films are also good. The Supergrass was the best one, it was the longest, too. Most were short films. One of the films called Four Men On A Plane had a scene when Nigel Planer was sitting on the toilet on the plane while it was airbourne and a turbalance occured, threw Nigel about in the toilet, the door swung open, the turbalance threw him out with his pants and trousers around his ankles until he fell down in the hallway where people were sitting. That was one of the funniest scenes.

I like a different British comedy called Only Fools & Horses but I'm not in the mood to watch it for a long time because I get fed-up with it always on UKTV Gold. Even though I'm not watching it on the TV, we can go off certains things when they are repeated on TV too much. I have Only Fools & Horses on DVD.

Two British comedies that I used to like years ago I don't anymore because the humour wore right off and they are The Goodies, The Kenny Everett Show and The Benny Hill Show.

                      Darren.

I only have Freeview and agree most of it is crap. I rather by DVD's of TV series I like so, I don't have to suffer from editing, adverts, DOG logos etc.

As long as somone has a TV that can accept a TV signal, a TV licence is needed. It also extends to TV cards in computers as well as watching live broadband streams such streaming the recent football world cup on the net. It is also not good enough just not have a aerial to avoid the licence. The TV also have to be de-tuned as well.

The licence funds the BBC but it doesn't matter if you dont want BBC channels, you have to have one. I would rather have more adverts and have them on the BBC channels and have no licence.

I would recommend lipitor, livitra, KY spray, then viagra, and for women who fly a lot, the feminine pads with wings will give you the most altitude, though I wonder why they don't put a rudder on them so they'd keep lined up, and landing gear so when they sit down they won't have to flare so much. The best comedy on British TV is The House of Commons. That show is really funny. The Goonies was funny too, as are all the Blackadder shows. I like Keeping Up Appearances too.
