i got the latest version of virtualdub. I remember seeing a friend use it before and it seemed to work very quickly. However, when i try to split a divx it says that it will take many hours and the file becomes so large that it does not fit on my harddrive and that is after only like 5%. Clearly it is not saving it as a compressed version. Does anyone know what i am doing wrong or have any help that might be appropriate? thanks.

pretty much sounds like you did NOT use direct stream for both: audio and video
your video got saved uncompressed i guess
