Slow encoding of First Pass of *.avi file in Virtual Dub.

This is really strange. The First Pass of the encoding of my video (Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Ring) went pretty slow at only 1kb/s.

The second pass is going at 90kb/s. Is this normal for the first pass, for it to be that slow?

Are there any ways to improve the encoding speed of the First Pass? Any info is appreciated.

second pass was always a little faster than pass one for me, but the difference was approx. 25%

therer must be a different explaination in your case!

What do you mean by 1kbps/90kbps ?, output data ?. If so this is perfectly normal with divx5, the first pass does not produce any output, except some frame headers. Look at the fps instead.
Donate your idle CPU time for something usefull.

I see now, so it is supposed to be this way.

Well, on the first pass, it was about 15 fps and on the second one it was about 23-25 fps.

        Thanks for the explanations.
