Splitting avi-audio problems

Hi,
I am trying to split an avi in half using Virtualdub. The first half came out perfectly, I did cut on a key frame. When I select the second half, and try to save it, the audio data begins on 0 but jumps to and remains on 24 and the current audio sample reads 0/-24469. Then when I try to open the file in divx, I get an error message that says Divx cannot open the file.
Any suggestions?

update to query:
The movie that I'm trying to split is on 2 cd's in avi form. I tried to do the same split on the second cd with the same results. The first half worked and the second half had the same symptoms as the first.
