De-interlacing in Virtualdub/Nandub

I'm trying to figure out the best deinterlacing filter to use when encoding.

To be honest I'd be happy to use the new version of flask the whole time. But as I need to add logo's and watermarks I need to use virtualdub, the only thing is I'm struggling to come up with good deinterlacing results.

At the moment i've tried the standard deinterlacer and also smart deinterlacer. I have no clue at all what settings to use for smart deinterlacer?
