At my work we are making a movie. We used a program and saved it as mpeg 2 dvd format with a .mpg extention. I am looking for a program to convert it to divx 5 format. I think I have to use tmpeg but i want to makes sure. Let me know what programs I need to use. thanks for all the help everyone at the forms.

Open it up in VirtualDub
Set Video to Full Processing Mode
Select Compression under the Video drop down menu select your codec and configure it.
Set audio to direct stream copy
Save as AVI.

since your source is mpeg2 you can use any dvd-guide and treat your data like they were vob files:
dvd2avi => gordianknot/dvx =>divx/xvid

Alternatives would include MPEGMediator (perhaps the simplest to use), Flask, XMPEG, VirtualDubMod (NOT simply VirtualDub as indicated by SKD_Tech), amongst others...
(Although you could actually use TMPGEnc, with effort, I wouldn't recommend it for this purpose)Comment
