Recorded shows from an ATI All in Wonder

I've got a ATI All in Wonder and have recorded some TV shows. A 30 minute who(really equals about 20 minutes minus the commercials) runs about 1 gigabyte. There's also many different formats I can save to, such as, Mpeg-1, Mpeg-2, and AVI. But I have it saved as AVI. 20 minutes = 1 gigabyte is just ridiculous, and I want to convert it to a smaller file. Which one is the easier format to convert to DIVX 5.0x, and what program should be used?

you could open your uncompressed avi in tools like gordianknot or DVX.

this way you will be able to have quick access to a two pass routine (which provides best quality) in order to save to a new file using either divx 5.05 or xvid and have the file compressed enormously with high quality.

if you dont want to use any of those tools (which i would) you might want to load the avi into virtualdmod (that's what the other tools will do automatically) and go to video => full processing mode

next choose a codec and bitr5ate and save to new file.

for a guide on DVX click on my button and dont worry if the routine described was meant for dvd => avi/ogm creation.

simply open your avi instead of dvd data and most of the routine will be identical.
