    a re-encode problem

    hi,

i've got a problem encoding ... a dvd rip (divx 3.11 fast motion)
to any compression, i'm re-encoding this file because i want it to fit on to a 700 MB cd-r.

I can't encode with some codecs ... and the ones that do ... their result is garbled ... => see attachment

Can anyone describe the cause of this ... and give me a possible solution ....

    Grtz ...

Looks like the stairsteps you get by changing the interlace. Cut out and save a couple minutes of the video (to save time encoding) and try encoding interlaced or deinterlaced to see if this solves your problem. If so then keep your settings and encode the whole video.

load your file in Vdub (I use Vdub mpeg2)
under video select "direct stream copy"
under audio select "direct stream copy"
move the slide to where you want the beginning and mark it
move the slide to where you want the end and mark it
click file "save as avi" and name your file
this will give you a short file to test your settings on.
