    MP3 Audio

Is 128 bit at 15kb a sec mp3 audio really necessary? It increases the files size dramtatically compared to 48bit at 5kb a sec audio.

Anyone have any opinions on this?

What you mean with "128 bit at 15kb"? Maybe you should find out the difference between kbps/kb/bit/byte/...

Why don't you just try it, if you like it, fine use it.
But in my opinion 48kbs is way too low, it'll be like telephone quality.

Wont it increase the file size though? I mean, you can see a considerable difference.

of course file size will vary a LITTLE, but as benderman said you wont get a halfway decent quality out of an 48kbit mp3.

for size difference take a 90 minute movie:

            128kbit/sec will take 86.400kb
            (128/8 x 60 x 90)

            48 will take 32.400kb

some 52 mb might matter, but on the other hand the way you transcode your file and of course the final output size (i.e. 2 cd instead of one) should be more important for the quality of your movie

I wouldn't dream of using such a low audio bitrate. It's no use having a high-quality video if your ears have to hurt all the time. 128kbps is the minimum I would use. 96kbps is still bearable though.

112 is a better trade off between 128 and 96.
