i'm relatively experienced with video, but not much audio experience.
when i play movies that are at 48000 Hz, i get a weird crackling/popping noise throughout. someone suggested that my audio system (gateway laptop, preinstalled ess es1988 allegro pci audio) may be only 44100 Hz, and thus be downsampling and producing the noise.
are there any players than can do this downsampling on the fly more smoothly and spare me the noise? is there any audio software workaround other than re-encoding the movie, or buying a real soundcard?
thanks for your help!
