DivX Audio playback volume level

When playing DivX or Xvid movies i have to crank my system volume dial way up so that i am able to hear the audio. Is there a way to adjust the volume levels?. I have tried my WinXP volume levels and they are all up. The windows media player slide bar is at max. I still have to turn the dial on my ACS33 Altec Lansing speakers almost to the Max to hear everything properly. If i turn the dial up too high, i get hissing in the background. Any suggestions?
