People telling each other how bad a movie is - that's what costs the industry most money. How long before industry demands legal penalties for criticising movies?

Once they have that one sorted out, then they have the *major* plughole fixed.
I would love to see em try that one. That would be going WAY to far and we could probly get alot of this DMCA crap kicked out if they did.

You know i'm not preaching that everything should be left wide open to piracy. that realy wouldent be cool. I just like the ability to backup and manipulate the stuff I purchise. I invested alot of cash in many of my DVDs and I like to make backups that I realy dont care if I destory or gte lost. I bought all the Star Trek TNG box sets when they where first releasing for top price. I have all 7 sets. cost me close to $1,000 total i'll guess (they where going for like $150 at the time and now there like $80 so i'm kinda POed as it is). Like I want to risk those geting scratched.

there has to be some kinda compromise on the diffrence between backups and outright piracy. Unfortinitly theres no real way to do that and the MPAA realy dosnt care to do that.

But then I still do download screeners and other stuff thats still in it;s theatrical run from time to time to. So I guess i'm just a dirty pirate anyway.

Isnt it sad how futile of a subject this is to argue? We just simply have no say. there going to do whatever they want and we cant do a thing about it. We always are hypocrits about it anyway But thats just 1 of the 2 constants in this universe we live in (my constents. yours might differ) Infinity and humands are hypocits (it could be something very minor but none the less it;s true)

Heres an intresting point for ya. I have been known to deal in old console video game emulation in the past. theres a well known member of the emulation comunity who develops tools for identing and renaming known rom images. This tool manipulates thousands of comercial rom files (pirated software) and the developer has the nerve to get pissed off and go raging if somone rips off his work and uses it as his own. A pirate that gets pissed if somone pirates his stuff? ha.....

I have a little quote I use alot in matters like this "A thief should expect to get robed". In otherwords as long as we are stealing music and movies they will be stealing our rights witch will incurage us to steal more music and movies and they will steal more rights (the infinity constant of the universe at work). A middle ground must be found to end it.

well i'm ranting and this is toatly disjoned comments nut I think you people will undertsand

I wait for the rental store to get the movies in, then rip them. Costs 3 quid (UK pounds) a throw. So you could say everyone still gets a small cut...

^^^yup exactly what i do. i find that works alot better, too, cuz p2p is usually fake/bad quality/messed up/slow to download/etc and with a dvd rip i can start out with perfect quialty and do my own GOOD conversion. and yeah i did PAY for the movie, but $4, not $30

Don't forget the $3 it costs you for the blank DVD disc to burn it to...and the cost of your DVD Burner spread out over all the DVD's you burn (my Sony= $450) plus the burning software (TMPGenc DVD Author=$70, Nero=$50). Maybe after I burn 500 disc' the cost will get down to $30/disc.

                            Let's see...

                            I paid $125 for my burner - Mat****a (a.k.a. Panasonic) SW-9571 - I can't believe the sh1t in Matsh1ta gets edited, that's too funny!

                            $0.69 per DVD-R

                            FREE ripping software (DVDShrink, BABY!)

Burning software came with my CD-R (NERO)

Borrow original DVDs from my friends to make their backup copies for them. Oh, and *whoops* I slipped my OWN backup copy into MY DVD collection, how'd THAT get there??

It don't take anywhere NEAR 500 "backups" to break even, and the cost of burners and media will only continue to drop.

Screw the MPAA, the RIAA, and the overpaid "actors"!

GRANT240, I am suprised you managed to make such a post without having someone here flag you down as a bad person.
Government throws more money at a problem, so it looks like they are making a difference.
