hybrid news guys, Northern NJ is 6 counties of money, and the word is that they are changing there municipal fleets to hybrid. AT+T is in negotiations with Ford about changing fleet as well. to see state and large corp doing what is logical means that the fingers of blame have less targets to aim at. Oil barons beware, your greed might make you as impotent as you made the Buggy Whip companies of old. I for one would gladly give up power for a discounted gas bill, still gotta eat.

Seems the Americans are maybe a bit more humble now....

WOULDN'T IT BE GREAT TO TURN ON THE TV AND HEAR ANY U.S. PRESIDENT, DEMOCRAT OR REPUBLICAN GIVE THE FOLLOWING SPEECH?

My Fellow Americans: As you all know, the defeat of Iraq regime has been completed.

Since congress does not want to spend any more money on this war, our mission in Iraq is complete.

This morning I gave the order for a complete removal of all American forces from Iraq. This action will be complete within 30 days. It is now to begin the reckoning.

Before me, I have two ! lists. One list contains the names of countries which have stood by our side during the Iraq conflict. This list is short. The United Kingdom, Spain, Bulgaria, Australia, and Poland are some of the countries listed there.

The other list contains everyone not on the first list. Most of the world's nations are on that list. My press secretary will be distributing copies of both lists later this evening.

Let me start by saying that effective immediately, foreign aid to those nations on List 2 ceases immediately and indefinitely. The money saved during the first year alone will pretty much pay for the costs of the Iraqi war.

The American people are no longer going to pour money into third world Hell-holes and watch those government leaders grow fat on corruption.

Need help with a famine? Wrestling with an epidemic? Call France.

In the future, together with Congress, I will work to redirect this money toward solving the vexing social problems we! still have at home. On that note, a word to terrorist organizations. Screw with us and we will hunt you down and eliminate you and all your friends from the face of the earth.

Thirsting for a gutsy country to terrorize? Try France, or maybe China.

I am ordering the immediate severing of diplomatic relations with France, Germany, and Russia. Thanks for all your help, comrades. We are retiring from NATO as well. Bon chance, mes amis.

I have instructed the Mayor of New York City to begin towing the many UN diplomatic vehicles located in Manhattan with more than two unpaid parking tickets to sites where those vehicles will be stripped, shredded and crushed. I don't care about whatever treaty pertains to this. You creeps have tens of thousands of unpaid tickets. Pay those tickets tomorrow or watch your precious Benzes, Beamers and limos be turned ! over to some of the finest chop shops in the world. I love New York .

A special note to our neighbors. Canada is on List 2. Since we are likely to be seeing a lot more of each other, you folks might want to try not pissing us off for a change.

Mexico is also on List 2. President Fox and his entire corrupt government really need an attitude adjustment. I will have a couple extra tank and infantry divisions sitting around. Guess where I am going to put em? Yep, border security. So start doing something with your oil.

Oh, by the way, the United States is abrogating the NAFTA
      treaty - starting now.

We are tired of the one-way highway. Immediately, we'll be drilling for oil in Alaska - which will take care of this country's o! il
needs for decades to come. If you're an environmentalist who opposes this decision, I refer you to List 2 above: pick a country and move there. They care.

It is time for America to focus on its own welfare and its own citizens. Some will accuse us of isolationism. I answer them by saying, "darn tootin."
Nearly a century of trying to help folks live a decent life around the world has only earned us the undying enmity of just about everyone on the planet. It is time to eliminate hunger in America. It is time to eliminate homelessness in America. It is time to eliminate World Cup Soccer from America. To the nations on List 1, a final thought. Thanks guys. We owe you and we won't forget.

To the nations on List 2, a final thought: You might want to learn to speak Arabic.<FON! p a thank English, in it reading are you If teacher. this, read can night. good and Thank America. bless God size="2" face="Verdana" T QUOTE]< soldier.[>

I dont log in much, mostly a lurker.
But this topic really caught my interest and i felt I simply had to reply.

You speak of boycotts and protests. Heres a question. What makes you think you DESERVE cheap gas? You dont. Big Oil owes you NOTHING.
If Oreo cookies were $15 a box, would you buy them? Of course not.
Want to make a statement? Stop using oil. You deserve nothing, your owed nothing. Its disgusting to think otherwise.

I traded in a car that was getting 25 MPG for a car that gets over 40. Thats my protest. Thats my boycott. And as soon as they get electric cars a bit more cost efficient, I may very well go that route.

Dont like your heating bill? Heat differently. Buy solar panels. Upgrade insulation. Weather strip your doors and seal your windows.

Now, the reason I say this is because I buy into a theory called "Peak Oil". To put it simply, its the midpoint of hydrocarbon production. Before the peak, production can ramp up as needed to meet consumer demand. At and after peak, production CANNT increase and will decrease, regardless of what measures are taken to prop up production with artifical means.
What we have currently is an interesting mix. Demand has suddenly surged with China entering the marketplace as they have, and production (Even without China) is having a hard time meeting demand.
2+2=4. Ever increasing demand with more and more problems increasing production.

Fellas, if you think ong and hard on this the ramifications are HUGE. This goes way beyond what you pay for gas.
We're talking (Worst case of course) the single greatest threat to the contiued way of life of mankind. We're talking BILLIONS of dead, crashed economies, worldwide depression.
Crude oil is used in almost every faucet of life. Food production, heating, transportation, power generation, medicines, plastics, you name it.
Rising crude prices will cause higher energy prices, higher gas prices, higher food prices, this causes a depression in the economy, people cant afford homes, foreclose, enconomy takes another hit and the snowball keeps rolling downhill.

          Its scary.

You can read more about it Here

Theres also an excellent website with forums Here

We'd welcome any new members, but at the very least I recommend you give it a once over.
It might give you new perspective as to why our prices are what they are, and just how bad its going to get.

That aside, theres always the fact companies are looking to turn a profit, so indeed some levels of price gouging would be expected.

If you would prefer to learn about Peak Oil on TV, heres 2 shows airing soon.

          On LINK-TV - DirecTV Channel 375 , Dish Network Channel 9410

          Two important shows coming up:

First, On Saturday, October 1 @ 8 PM EST
The Oil Factor, Behind the war on terror

Second, On Sunday, October 2, @ 10 PM EST
          End of Suburbia

It really isn't a question of not wanting to pay for a product as much as the sudden inflated cost for the same product. The average Pay raise in this country is down to 3%, matching standard inflation. Gas is up 15 times that amount in under a year. And the alternatives are not as simple as just switching heating from oil to solar power. A solar system for ones home that would do what oil does now is a costly procedure indeed. Yes there are choices and alternatives, but most of them are cost prohibative. I'm just sayin that if it comes down to it and the cost keep rising I'll be 10 speeding it down RT. 80 the 40mls to work everyday so I have enough for rent. Now that's progress ppl.

              Hi guys,
Quick respons from a country that should be "OFF" the list. First I must say that i agree on many things you say BUT every country pays the high prices for oil because of the fact that GI Joe wants to invade every country in the world just to proove they have the longest d*ck. The majority of soldiers in combat are from foreign origin. For the "help" from the US, well that was more than 60 years ago. Starting from 1942 after the declaration of war from the Germans on the US. If you guys didn't come and save us, we would all be speaking commy or German right now instead of "English". BUT, there were also British, Australian and Canadian people who came to the aid. It seems that everyone with a comment on your thoughts will be banned to list 2. Well, the countries on list 2 did not ask for the Korean, Vietnam, every African and now Middle East war. I guess you forgot about that. You know what's still around in the former USSR as a result of the cold war. These things are leaking into nature but also leaking into the market (you can't imagine what one can buy these days) Instead of flying (or better trying to) to the moon and Mars and try setting up Star Wars plans in the universe because of the fear for attacks from every other nation, try investing in hybrid cars and get rid of the silly taxes for it (as mentioned by others, like BMW, Nissan etc) (didn't the cars in WWII run on methane-gas??) or solve the hunger around the world (also in the US) by feeding them and not by poisoning them (altered crops for Africa which give cancers from Monsanto and the likes) Any idea on the source of all these weird weather conditions? Maybe a bomb too much was tested somewhere? I could ramble on for hours about you cowboys. But i wont as i think that i have signed my own death sentence on this forum.
BTW we all have the same problems here (ultra high prices for everything, not only oil, "lazy" immigrants or other NO workers, fraude in government, rascism, diseases and MTV) but we don't bomb or invade and whine about it. We just pay and pay and pay. Only thing we don't have yet are "Katrina's"
ps As long as you guys train the Arabs in English we don't need to speak their language

um wow, I'm sorry if what I have been saying in here has offended you. the message that I am trying to convey is not that prices are to high in the US but that the rate at which they increased was criminal. And the GI Joe thing??? My grandfather was in the British army for WWII (38-45 some great stories in there) so I'm not in here beating the drum for the marching American troops either. This thread was intended to brainstorm possible solutions to the price gouging that was actively going on at the pumps. You don't mention where your from but man, we're not talking politics in here. Again I'm sorry if you thought we were not justified in our complaints about a product that increased 50% in 6 months (which will drive all import/export prices up as well), I guess we'll keep our mouths shut next time there is a massive oveerhaul of our economy.

The only way I can think of too lower gas prices is to find out who is the highest priced company of the big three Exxon, Shell, Mobile, and boycott them, thus starting a price war, since the one whos is the highest will be the one who loses money. We must work together to do this because they are working together against us!

Thats not a bad idea but when it comes to us Americans we like to bitch and moan about stuff we dont like but as soon some sort of commitment is required to stand up and fight for what is right most would rather sit and say why bother nothing will come of it anyway and thats why companies get away with putting prices higher then they should be

It's often humoring watching people go on with conspiracies surrounding fuel and politics. Fuel involves all aspects of our being as it is used to power electricity, get us to work, runs our technological gadgets and keep us from freezing during the cold seasons. Mind you, if fuel ran out, I am certain that Mankind would come up with other cleaner ways of making life easier. Afterall, these things are privaledges in life and should not be squandered. If they keep rising in cost, people will simply be forced to change thier business (Inflation) or change the way they do things (Alternatives to fossil fuels). I am ashamed however that the government applies fuel taxes on non-fossil fuels or "Green" fuel. If it wasn't for that and the fact that patents for fuel efficient designs are gobbled up and shelved by the oil industries, society may have a less bleak outlook or less dependancy on such a resource.

As for Canada, the Government weigns to the great USA. Canadians don't have enough clout to do much of anything original as almost all of our country is US owned. If the USA declared that Canada was no good for nothing, you could imagine that Canadians would be up that smelly bunghole creek.

Business as usual, Consumers trying to gobble everything up and the distributors trying to make a bigger turn-around.
