    Need Help Authoring LOTR 2

    Hey Everyone,

I just received my sony dvd-burner yesterday. I have the Lord of the Rings 2 screener and I wanted to put it on a dvd and view it on my home dvd player. The only problem is that while windows xp and other programs views the files (4 parts) as a little over 3 gigs, the dvd authoring program views the files as 11.5 gigs and I can't figure out why.

If anyone has any explanations or tips as to what I need to do, I would greatly appreciate it. I understand programs like smart ripper and ifoedit, but just having this "video" and trying to turn it into a dvd is causing me a problem.

    Thanks in advance,

sorry about this post, but please respond

    Hey Everyone,

I didn't mean to upset anyone posting "warez" material, but forget about lotr, I am just wondering why the file size would jump so much and how I can get around it.

    Thanks again,

Post whatever you want as long as it doesn't contain "warez" links.
As far as I know, you didn't do anything wrong....

      What format is the "original"?

Sounds like he has the very common 4xSVCD encode on most P2P sharing programs. Be warned, one of the cds has coruption on a few frames which is making conversion difficult for alot of people

First, what program are you using to transcode to DVD?

Ok step by step here's what I've tried

          1. have TDI's release SVCD format, used vcdgui to extract the MPEG2 files (4 total 800mb each). All were extracted sucessfully.

          2. So far have tested on 4 programs, Sony Software with the DRU-500 (which decompresses the files and one 800mb goes to 3gigs. All four on one dvd was set to 12 gigs (wow!).

Sonic My DVD - which doesn't load the mpegs

Sonic REEL - doesn't load but told possibly how to fix it.

Dazzle - won't load the mpeg

I was told on Sonic REELDVD that you have to separate the audio and video, and was told to use TMPEGENC. However it's erroring when I choose DVD NTSC on the wizzard and try to open the file.

          TIA!

What is the specific error message TMPGEnc generates?

All it says is "lotr1.mpg" can not open or unsupported.

That's under DVD NTSC but it also came up when I tried it up PAL just incase.

Maybe you got a corrupted chunk, or, depending on the program you got it from, it might not even be complete.

You could use DVD2AVI and then use VFAPI to feed to whatever program you wish. AVISynth would be better but is harder to setup but is much faster (YUY2)

Well I could go to avi, but aren't we now facing compression and other situations. I have watched the movie through on my xbox and found not one pop scratch or missing frame. Plus VCDgui didn't pick up any either when extracting. I checked every rar with PAR and all were with correct CRC. If anyone has this svcd, extract one of the movies using vcdGUI and then give it a try. I have been pluggin all day looking for reasons.

Thanx to all who have helped so far. It is appreciated GREATLY!

DVD2AVI will only frame-serves.......does not convert to avi at all!!!!....(well it can)
You save the DVD2AVI projectfile and open it with VFAPI.
That will create a avi a few kb in size but to most apps that open it, you will see the whole film.
                      hence, frame-serve.
Practically no loss at all in quality

                      Edit:
The people i know who have this all have the same issues with bad frames. Hope that's not the same for you.
                      I have the DVD-R version

Sounds like you haven't (downloaded and) installed the REQUIRED companion VFAPI file...

"is this file for sonic reeldvd"

No, it's required for TMPGEnc. It was either included in the primary TMPGEnc zip file you downloaded (If the most recent version) and requires separate installation or, it is available as a separate zip download (from the same site that you downloaded the primary TMPGEnc) and requires separate installation...

I grabbed the plugin and it brings up another GUI. I opened DVD2AVI and it opened all 4 videos at once (lotr1,2,3,4). So I take it this is a good thing? All the videos now come together as one file when I scroll through with DVD2AVI.

Now what should I do. I swear when this is all done I will make a tutorial for other with this project!

*also side note, under dolby digital it says DECODE? does that mean this is already encoded for dolby digital, or will I have to still encode when I extract the audio from the video and use REELDVD?

I must say that the help I received on this forum is AMAZING! You all deserve a medal!
