    Really Stumped..

    Hey guys.
OK I'm new to making DVDs and I've been using guides from www.dvdrhelp.com to convert my DivX to DVD.. So I go through the guide and do what it says. Then I burned the VIDEO_TS to a DVD-R..

I throw the DVD-R into my PS2 to watch the movie. It just sits on a black screen when I press play. So then I load it into my DVD-ROM drive and open PowerDVD. It says it can't play the video because the disc may be damaged (like a scratch). So I take it out and look at it, no scratchs or anything. I clean it off just in case. Then I throw it back in, same problem. So I open the DVD in Windows Media Player and it begins to play. Now here's where a new peoblem pops up. The actual video part is playing faster than it is supposed to. The audio is playing at proper speed but the video footage was going faster than it is meant to do.

So I was wondering if anyone can help me figure out 2 things. (1) Why I can't get the DVD to load in my PS2 or PowerDVD, BUT it will run in Media Player. (2) Why is it playing so fast?

Thanks for any help. And I'm truely sorry if this is in the wrong forum. I wasn't sure exactly where to post this thread as I am unsure exactly what part of the process is causing the error.

    Thanks.

PS1's and PS2's won't read ANY cd or dvd-backups that a person will create himself. You need a ModChip to play cd-r, dvd-r, or even vcd's in your PS2.

Since the dvd plays in WMP, then it must be the way the disc is made why PowerDVD won't accept it.

As for the speed, there are quite a few guides on dvdrhelp, post some specific details of how you made the dvd to find out what went wrong.

Sorry that I didn't mention, but I do have a modchip in my ps2.

      As for the guides...

      I used this one: http://www.dvdrhelp.com/tmpgencdvd.htm
I used the following one to get the audio extracted. http://www.dvdrhelp.com/divxtovcd.htm#audio
Then to burn the DVD I used this guide: http://www.dvdrhelp.com/instantdvd.htm

Thanks for the help so far.

My PS1 was very picky when it came to playing backups of games, so it depends on what media you chose. If you followed the exact directions from the site, there should be no problem. Just try changing the brand you use, and more importantly you should get a -/+rw disc so you can erase it if you mess it up.

ive a mod chip in my ps2
when it was fitted did they tell you how to get it to play dvds?

this is how to do it just in case they didnt

for dvd movies and ps1, put the disc in then turn off at the back wait 10 secs then turn it back on, then press thr reset button untill the blue eject light comes on, to get it back to ps2 mode turn it off at the back for about 20 secs.

          hope this helps

My normal DVDs run fine with direct boot, as well my DVD-R games also do the same.. But I wil ltry that method out.

One question about the speed thing. IF I messed up a setting at some point like maybe encoded it in PAL when it shoulda been NTSC or something? Like where would I look to make the change?? Do you have any idea as to what part of the conversion process I most likely made the mistake?

i *THINK* I may have realized where I was making an error in my procedures.. I'm going to try another one over night and see how it goes. I'll update if I get it to work.

Thanks a lot for the help so far. It is appreciated.

Ok I seem to have burned the DVD and now when I try to play it in Media Player I get the error "Windows Media Player cannot play this DVD because a problem occurred with digital copyright protection"

                PowerDVD gives the following error:
Copy protection key exchange failure - Key not present.'

what have I done wrong this time?

Not sure about all playstation 2's but I know a fellow at work who plays all the DVD movie backups I have made for him and I know for certain he doesn,t have a mod chip in the game.

What software do you use to burn the DVD, some versions of nero don,t seem to burn dvd backups that are widely compatable.
Up until I updated to 5.5.10.35 I had to use the udf/iso setting with force video mode compatabilty turned on to make the backups work in my player. Video DVD would not play. With 35 the disk now work fine. If you use the proper setting to encode the file Mpeg2 files you are burning you should get good results.
On thing that helps with most divx coversions is to use a program like virtualdub to create a seperate audio file ti work with. I have done several divx to vcd conversions that worked fine but many would not encode proper without demuxing the audio to wav format before encoding.
