    ?? Playstation 2 ??

I am considering a Pioneer DVR A-03 to burn some old Reels of Cine film to, I have 3 members of my family; 1 with a DVD drive in his PC and 2 others with PS2's.

Can anyone tell me if the movies would work on the Ps2's?/

    Regards,

    John Fowles

Yes... just use Prassi Primo DVD to it, it works fine. However, you still need a modchip on your PS2 and you have to use a double swap method to do it. Somewhat of a hassle, but can be done.

are you planning to create your own PS2 games or are you going to make backups of originals?

You can only store 4.7GB of data on a DVDr so you will have to resample your MPEG2 files smaller. If you want to put it on DVD you will need DVD authoring programs to do it. MyDVD comes with the A03 I think depends on where you are from.

yes you can provided it is authored as DVD not VCD/DIVX/SVCD. Home DVD players and PS2 do not understand MPEG2 in its format. they have to be in a different format.

If you want to buy a DVDr for copying PS2 games then go for it. If you want to copy DVD movies then forget it as most movies are beyond the DVDr capacity unless you know how to rip them and cut the bits out. If you are buying a DVDr for making your own movies to play on your own DVD player or PS2 then go for it.

                    Does that answer your question?

Yes you can - It shouldnt be a problem

OK I think some of you have missed the point.
The idea was to convert 6gb of MPEG data onto DVD.

It can be done quite simply using the software thacomes wit the A03 (In the UK anyway!)

Obviously you cant fit all 6gb on 1 dvd, but you can put it over 2.

Use MYDVD that comes with the A03, create new project (Either MPEG1 or 2 whihever format your video is in), select ratio (Normally 4:3) and then start a new project.

Create your menus etc (Im not gonna do a tutorial, you should be able to figure that yourself)

Attach your video files to the menu items if you have lots of files, u can make a button for each file.

If they are long files you can add chapter points too.

Now create DVD files structure (Using the menu option)
It may take a couple of hours to do.

                      Youve now done your DVD.

You should Have VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS files wherever you have saved them.

NOTE: you should have an NTFS partition of more than 4.7gb to save this on, unless your finished DVd is less than that, if you got 6gb, you could put 3gb on one disc and 3gb on another.

Open VOB dvd it (Which also comes bundled with the A03) and create new Data disc, and Choose UDF (Last menu option)
Select the Drive, and DVD disc size (4.7gb) and OK

Drag the 2 folders VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS into your disc compilation, and select write (the format should be UDF 1.02, and to make it compatible with PS2 u can use UDF 1.5 - I use 1.5 and it works on my Stand alone players, PC and PS2)

Write the disc and thats it.

                      Phew.

Hope this helps, its just a basic outline, obviously u will need to find your way around the sotware, but its quite straight forward.

                      Good luck

PS It will author it as a Region 0, so you wont need to be modded on Stand alone, PC or PS2.

                              No mOd Needed

In early models of PS2 the laser could not read DVD-R
However in almost all the other following models they can read
                              DVD-R without Modding

It would be useful if anyone knows which read DVD-R?

I belive there are drive upgraeds which can sit on your memory card to update the DVD or something like that, usually available on the System DVD u get with the console or on any of the DVD region plugin cards (Region X etc)

My mate just bought a new "R" model PS2 and it played DVD-R straight out the box.
