"if i use besweet to convert the .ac3 to .wav what settings in besweet gui do i need to set to get a 5.1 wav?"

As far as I know, you can obtain a two-channel stereo Uncompressed PCM .WAV audiostream...
(That's why I said, " If you're willing to use a .WAV file")

"so it has changed it on demux"

I don't seee anything in your postings that indicate anything's changed - only that there's something in (or lacking in) the demultiplexed audiostream that's making it unacceptable to other programs...

      solved the problem

i had to use ac3fix, a dos utility (the nasty program made me use the keyboard mum , but i wont hold that againt it) which corrects any bad frames in ac3 files. anyway it said my ac3 file had 18bytes of wrongness and promptly fixed it. now all my programs recognise it correctly yay. anyway thanks for all the help and i hope this info helps someone else. ac3fix can be found on digital-digest's software download list under audio tools i think.

          Hi there!

This is the exact same problem i'm experiencing at the moment. I managed to get my .avi with ac3 authored but there was no sound! I used VirtualDubMod to demux the sound and used TMPGEnc Plus to convert the video to .mv2 I then used DVD Lab to author but it didn't like the ac3 file.

I have tried to use Besliced & ac3fix but must be a bit thick cos I can't get either of them to work properly!!

Any help would be appreciated as I would dearly love to play a DVD-R with a 5.1 DD movie on my home cinema in my front room!

              ac3fix

put the file in a folder with ac3fix so you dont have to type to much, run up a command prompt type cd c:\where youve put your files then ac3fix myac3 myac3fixed. i think thats the sequence or type ac3fix /? for help.

i'm sorry, but this doesn't seem to work. I don't think I understand how to use these DOS programs!

When I open command prompt, the window displays as follows:

                Microsoft Windows XP [Version 5.1.2600]
                <C> Copyright 1985-2001 Microsoft Corp.

                C:\Doccuments and Settings\Michael> _

I cannot delete the above line & when I type in the details you gave me I just get an error message.

                HELP!

use the CD command to change directory

use the above command to get to the directory where you put ac3fix and your file, or put ac3fix and your file in my documents, this is where the c:\documents and settings\micheal directory maps to. it just means you'd have to type all that crap in at the command prompt. best idea is to create a new folder on the root of c:\ like ac3fix then move ac3fix and your file there, and type cd .. cd .. then cd ac3fix.
