Where does the avi come from?
Is this the only one that plays up?
It might help to load it into VirtualDubMod and post here what 'File Information' reports.

      I only say might ..

Its happening with every avi,so loading them into virtual dub would be a waste of time.I think i will reinstall TMPGEnc and see if that cures it

Once again thanks for your help

          Our pleasure

It's a strange one isn't it? I've done a search and I can't find a similar problem - usually no audio at all!
When you mentioned priority was that TMPGEnc/Options/Environmental setting/VFAPI plug-in?
Does upping the AV12 File Reader help?

It is a strange one and its doing my head in.I've had problems in the past with no audio or audio out of sync, but with lots of help off people on here i can sort that now.If it wasnt for this problem the films would be perfect but i'm sure i'll get there.

I will try upping the AV12 file reader now and see if it makes any difference before i reinstall TMPGEnc.

            Thanks.

All the films i have on my hard drive at the moment are DivX or Xvid so i have been converting them with Directshow multimedia file reader set to highest priority.I have now extracted the audio to a wav file and set Directshow multimedia file reader to default.I encoded the film using the wav file and it has reduced the judder but it is still there.I tried setting AVI2 file reader to highest priority and enabled the deinterlace filter set to even field (adaptation) but there was no further improvement.

              Any more suggestions?
