you mean MenuShrink ... Yes, if all you do is movie only backup, not need for it!

EDIT: Sorry I replied before I read your correction! Well, yes too! If you want to keep menus, then there's a need!
How much more confusing can we make this discussion?Last edited by jeanl; 17 Mar 2005, 11:12 AM.Comment

Not nearly a record, but R4 Monster, 780K from 180Mb. There was 5 mins of black unreferenced material (in VTSM 1 of all places!).
I guess we only report things if there's at least 1Gb to be saved. woe is me!

Blutach, this ones makes it onto the list, but this is one more case of DVDs where the resulting menu is still quite large (over 100MB) even without audio.
I'm guessing the DVD has a large number of cells, right (probably over 500)?

Yes (lots of photo galleries mainly and many "tiny button cells"). I can do a formal count in PgcEdit - but it took ages to load there and in DVD Shrink.
Also VTSM 2 and 3 have LUs other than English, which if eliminated save another 20-25 Mb. My final was 89Mb.

It's easiest in IFOEdit, looking at the VTSM_C_ADT table. But you have to divide the size of the table by 12 to get the number of cells... And you have to do that for each IFO...

Do you want to know exactly?

well just out of curiosity... I'm wondering if blanking out the unneeded cells (ie. replacing them with black frames) wouldn't be helpful here...

OK - when I have a moment, I'll check it out. And yes, that could also help, but they're mostly photoshots nows.

I did on the R1 version. It was not that gigantic (original menu was something like 400 or 500MB, quite tiny compared to the behemoths that you guys have slaughtered!). Finding Nemo R2 was more respectable (800MB, from memory).

Jeanl.
Blutach mentioning photo galleries got me thinking.
The Almost Famous DVD does have quite a lot of stills covering production and filmographies. Would that cause the 138MB shrinked menu?
Shrek R1 was the first disc I did with MenuShrink 0.8. It came out very well.Comment

nwg, yes the photo gallerie is what I think caused the large menu size (I mentioned that in my email, did you get it?). I saw in the example you sent me that there was many cells with 3 buttons, guessing Next, Previous and MainMenu....
That's got to be it...

I have your emails from the last 24 hours and there wasn't anything like that.
I don't like those sort menus anyway. I never look at the photos are read the production notes. So, I would probably blank them after menushrinking them.
Another biggie (but no Black Hawk Down)
Snow White R2 Disc 1. Saved 986MB.
