    Taelon,
    Thanks for all the help. I'll try what you said and let know.

      Ok, I ripped it again to the HD with DVD Shrink (should I have ripped it with a different program?). Then I tried to see if the ripped copy would load back into shrink, and it did, and I was able to preview it also. Last, I downloaded and installed Media Player Classic and tried playing the ripped copy on my HD, and it plays fine on it. No freezing, and the audio is fine. Should I now try to burn it to a DVD+R with Nero?

          Ok, I burned it and tried it in the standalone, but it still has the same problems.

            does the disc play correctly on your pc? are you 100% sure your standalone supports DVD+R?

            if you've managed to get it onto the hard disk without any problems, the problem is now in the burning/standalone...

              Yup. That's all I use to backup my movies. I use Memorex DVD+R's

                  The orginal and copy both do.

                        Not dumb at all, I didn't know about except for seeing cynthia post it so often

                        Default location is C:\Program Files\Ahead\Nero\NeroHistory.log
                        it will have the last 6 or 8 burns, so try to copy just the last info, look for the seperator:

                            I'm still a newbie at reading these logs, hopefully an expert will chime in. One thing I notice is one of your hard drives has DMA off, this section bothers me but I don't know what it means exactly

                            Seems a shame to use a whole DVD for only 503MB of video, wonder if there could be a problem because so little is on the disk?

                                What I think that error means is that Nero tried to do bitsetting but failed...

                                <mad dog="" md-16xdvd9a2="">Your drives firmware is </mad>
                                Recorder: Version: 1.F0 - HA 1 TA 1 - 6.6.0.5
                                <mad dog="" md-16xdvd9a2=""> it looks like the latest Mad Dog firmware is 1.F3

                                The mad dog support site doesn't inspire much confidence since they don't even list the 1.F0 firmware, I haven't found the feature list for the 1.F0, it seems to me it would be a good idea to upgrade the firmware. Although I don't have a clue as to whether it would help with this particular problem. Since you've said the DVD's you normally burn work fine in your standalone.

                                Apparently the MAD DOG MD-16XDVD9A2 is actually a NEC 3520A, which means the NEC firmware should work, and I believe there is even an auto-bitsetting option.

                                </mad>
