re-authoring chapter separation question

Hi integra,

In order to create each chapter for each song of your DVDs, you have to save your favorite songs into .mpg files and then create chapters and author into DVD format with DVD author software. By using DVD Shrink, you don't have to author your files, you don't build the chapters for your songs but seperate titles for your songs and you can advance from one song to another with the remote control

Hope to be able to simplify the procedure to be easy for you to understand. OK, for example: you have 2 music DVDs and each DVD has 5 songs you like to save.

1- Start DVD Shrink, press Open Disc and click OK, wait for the program to complete analysing the DVD, and click Re-author. On the right pane, under the Main Movie, there is a Title 1 which is your DVD's main movie. You double-click it or click and drag it to the left pane under DVD Structure.

2- Click Set Start/End Frames. The Set Start/End Frames dialog opens and shows all the chapters in the Title 1. For example, this music DVD has 10 chapters or 10 songs and you want to keep songs 2, 4, 6, 8, and 10. First, at the Chapter of the Start Frame, you click the arrow and choose number 2 (the begin of chapter 2 or song 2). Second, at the Chapter of the End Frame, you click the arrow choose number 2 (the end of chapter 2 or song 2). Click OK to close the Set Start/End Frames dialog

3- After completing the first song, you double-click or click and drag the same Title 1 from the right pane to the left pane (DVD Structure) again. This time, the Title 1 become Title 1(2). Click the Set Start/End Frames again and this time you should choose chapter 4 for the Start Frame and End Frame. Continue with the same procedure until you finish chapter 10

4- When everything is done correctly, on the DVD Structure (left pane), you will have:

Title 1
Title 1(2)
Title 1(3)
Title 1(4)
Title 1(5)

6- Click Backup and save them in your HDD. When you finish, remove the first DVD and insert the second one. Do the same step above to select the song you like to keep. When you have the title 1 (s), DO NOT CLICK PACKUP YET. On the DVD Browser tab, click a small arrow and browse to where you saved your first DVD backup and double-click on the VIDEO_TS folder. This action will open a Title 1, Title 2. Title 3, Title 4, and Title 5 from the first DVD. You click and drag them one at the time to the left pane to combine your saved songs from both DVDs together, move them up and down to change their positions, and then back them up and burn as normal

This seems too hard but if you do a few time, you won't have any problem anymore

In order to use the remote to chapter skip, you will need to use PgcEdit's DVD Shrink Remote Buttons macro. This is required since DVD Shrink creates all those titles in their own VTSs. However, PgcEdit's macro is a one click process and works.

In order to properly make a single title, you would need to demux each title (with PGC Demux) and remux them together as a single title (with muxman), with celltimes.txt file (in frames) defining the chapter points.

Thank you very much blu for pointing me to the right direction. I always thought of using DVD Shrink re-author with the Set Start/End Frames really created chapters. It turned out that titles are still titles not chapters. Your suggestion of using PgcDemux and Muxman for demuxing and combining into 1 title really works flawlessly in this situation. Once again mahalo for your big help

when I followed Bentbryant instruction, I again got into the title 1, title 1(2), title 1(3)...this would not work since it will not create separate title or individual chapters after all. Can Blutach show me how to use the "PgcEdit's DVD Shrink Remote Buttons macro" as you have mentioned above so that I can get my project done. Thanks again, integra

It looks like you have found the way to use PGCdemux and muxman tool to fix the problem. Can you show me how to do it? I have download the pgcedit but could not find the PGCdemux and muxman to fix the problem. Appreciate your help. thank, integra

LOL - the list is getting shorter.

It's simple. First download PgcEdit from my sig. Also download all the plugins and copy them into a plugins sub-folder (make sure it is named this).

The load your project in PgcEdit: File - Open DVD (and navigate to the folder containing your re-authored project).

Then Plugins - DVD Shrink - DVD Shrink Remote Buttons. The macro will execute and it will work fine.

This is one way - just rip it as one big AC3 file. Then use BeSweet (see blutach's signiture

) to convert to WAV. Then open in Nero Wave Editor (get a free trial at www.nero.com if you don't have it) and then simply cut each song individually to a new project and save that as a new WAV or MP3

Hello Blutach,
Appreciated your info. I have downloaded the pgcedit, and all of the plugins such as celltime_plugin, lu_plugin, seach_replace_plugin, auto_comment_plugin, dvdshrink-plugin, and puo_plugin saved under plugins folder from the pgcedit folder. In the pgcedit folder, there are two sub-folder, and they are bin, plugins and pgcedit executable file. After I execute the pgcedit, perform File-Open DVD (navigated to where I saved the re-author songs), it shows 3 VTS files loaded. From it, I do not know how to go from there. In your instruction, you asked to perform Plugins-DVD Shrink-DVD Shrink Remote Button. How can I do that steps? If I tried to open one of the plugin folder, it gave me an error of could not open. Please help, and thanks alot in advance. integra

Position the highlight on ther left at VMG first play. Execute that macro as you desrcibed.

It should give you a screen like this.

Hello Blutach,
On the left of the pgcedit window, there are 4 lines:
1)VMG,First-Play PGC
2)VTST 1, 1 TTN1 (5:24) Title1
3)VTST 2, 1 TTN1 (4:28) Title2
4)VTST 3, 1 TTN1 (5:15) Title3
Do I have to first highlight the line 1? And how do I execute the macro per your instruction? Please help.....Regards, integra
