Announcing DVDSubEdit (new version 1.41 released 21 January 2007)
What do you mean blutach? Inputting your sub as in "this is crap" and having dvdsubedit replace the subs with that? I'm not sure this is what dvdsubedit is about... Mainly, the OCR is intended to help you search for stuff in your subtitles... But who knows...

So, I could put in "Captain scared'em out of the water" and DVDSubedit would go to the exact subtitle?
That's the idea! Although because of possible OCR errors, you probably wouldn't want to search for the entire sentence, but rather "out water" or something like that... This isn't implemented yet (the search function), but it's 95% done!
Give the OCR a shot, and let me know how it works for you. I'm wondering if the little trick I use to chose the pixel type is going to work on all subtitles, or if I just got lucky...
I found the new beta on Doom9. The ocr works ok. It didn't have any problems recognising English. There were no errors.
THAT'S AMAZING!
Try Ctrl-F just for fun. This runs the OCR on all the subpics in the background, you can see how fast it goes... Not terribly useful yet, but eventually it'll let you go to a specific subpic.

Yes, I'll give the option to save the subs as a text file, but I'm wondering what format to use, I'm sure there are some out there (i.e., subrip format), right?
What would you use the subtitle file for anyway???
Did you notice that GOCR has problems with question marks "?"? It almost always mistake them for "7". Also capital "A"s...
I know you can use a database with it, it's a pretty good program really...

The UI has been revamped, and the OCR stuff is now fully integrated, allowing you to select, or search subtitles based on content.
I've also added code to change subpic colors.
Here's the change log from beta 0.81
The UI has been reworked to make room for more features.
Added option to change subpic colors. When applied to all, the color change is only applied to the subpics that share the same CLUT.
Added Optical Character Recognition, using the amazing GOCR code by Joerg Schulenburg.
Added option to select subpics based on OCR content.
Added search field to seach for specific strings in the subpic's OCR output.
Added "Save OCR results as text file".
Ctrl-C now works in the command display area and the OCR display area.
Added "Save subpic as PPM file".
DVDSubEdit no longer refuses the open read-only files (but it refuses to save modifs!).
