What software produces the best quality output?

So far I have been using DVDSrink and so far its been excelent. But I hear it doesnt produce the best quality output video. So what program produces the best quality output? I never include extras or menus just the main movie.
I am interested in knowing both DVD>DVD and DivX/Xvid> DVD. What program will produce the best output in each case? I know that producing better quality output will take alot longer normally but I just got a new 3500+ (@2.7GHz) and 2GB memory so should be ok.

Thanks for any suggestions and advice you guys might be able to give me.

You can adjust the quality settings in shrink.

At low compression a transcoder like DVD Shrink/Recode etc will do just fine. If a lot of compression is involved you'd be better off using an encoder.
Read through the DVD Rebuilder subforum in particular UncasMS's inforrmative stickies & Cynthia's DVD Rebuilder for Dummies.

As always, it's down to personal preference either way

Bookmarked the article about dvd backing up with enphasis on quality but you have to buy 2 pieces of software. Ill check it out tomorow. DVDShrink is fine exept for long films when you have to use 70% compression and less.

Any free software notorious for good quality?

Even something like the extended versions of the LOR trilogy can be reauthored and split into part 1 and part 2 with little or no compression.
Cheap & fast and you preserve all the video quality.

Frank did a test to measure the quality of a reencoded DVD and one compressed by Shrink. And guess what? DVD Shrink is the winner! See here.

The free version of DVD Rebuilder and HCenc shouldn't cost you any money.

I do like DVD Rebuilder and Procoder 2. This makes outstanding results on very high compressed material - even down to 3Mbps and I have used different matrices with such things as HCEnc (free and excellent) to encode 1/2D1 at 2Mbps with fantastic results.

I think DVD Shrink/Recode is a great product and use it at low compression (say 90%) but in all other cases, it's the encoder for me
