Final Burn - Shrink vs. DVD Rebuilder

I am still working with both Shrink and Rebuilder and trying to sort out which one to use for the best results. If I want to save a 2 hr. home video which shows 7.7 GB in the authoring program, which program should I use for the best quality. Shrink usually shows a 53% compression. There are no menus,... to take out to gain quality.

Unless you have a $100,000 home video camera, I wouldn't think there should be more than 3-4 gigs in a 2 hr recording, especially with mono sound.

It is a 2 hour play of my daughter. I have a title, title for Act 1, Act 2, and about 8 min. of pictures of cast. There is also music w/titles. When I save it as a MPEG 2 movie and pull it into DVD Architect to make menus, it shows a 7.7 GB.

something's trying to save quality that's not there, do a test with a small part in reauthor in shrink and set compression to 55% and see if the video degrades

In any event, DVD Rebuilder will kill DVD Shrink hands down in quality.

if you want quality, dvd-rb is the one unless you want something on the fly

rebuilder wont be able to use your source unless it is dvd compliant material already

use hc enc or procoder to reduce the filesize and create a dvd5

I agree with Blu completely, unless you have atleast 90% or above compression ratio in shrink.

Thanks for the Rebuilder/Shrink info. I'm just completing editing of one of her plays. It is 2 hr. 10 min. When saved as MPEG 2 it is almost 6 GB and when pulled into Architect to add titles and chapter marks it is 7.7 GB. Then I will use Rebuilder to compress and burn, right? What again is doing something "on the fly". Is that not saving it to your harddrive?

My orginal point still stands, with a camcorder, quality of video is little better than vhs, why have large file size? Rebuilder or shrink use is a moot issue.
Just a little common sense.

I don't know how to bring down the file size. I am using a Panasonic camcorder, use Sony Vegas to edit, and Sony's DVD Architect to make the DVD menus. I have talked to someone else using Vegas and they have big files, too, for a 2 hour video...so n't know if it's a Vegas issue. I have experimented with different options in the "Saving Movie" process but the AVI increases it even further and MPEG 1 is about the same.

DVD Architect, there is a button called "Fit to Disc" which makes the final size enough to burn with a single layer disc or sound isn't that important, you could choose 2-ch instead of 5.1 to save some MBs.
