    dvd+r

I am very new to this stuff and also very frustrated cause I can find all kinds of info but nothing I've found has answered this question...
Can DVD+R's be used to make copies of dvd's or other content?
Is there any difference, aside from the burner that's being used, in DVD-R's and DVD+R's? Can anyone give me some info on this???

"Can DVD+R's be used to make copies of dvd's or other content?"

    Certainly.

Just make certain that the standalone DVD player used for playback can read DVD+Rs (Most can read both -R and +R formats)...

      dvd+R

      Thanks.
Will they also work with they other methods discussed in the forums here like smartripper? Do you have any suggestions on what software to use and gives the best quality?

I don't use SmartRipper, so I can't tell you about it.

I can, however, tell you that DVDDecrypter (a better tool overall) apparently can only burn DVD-Rs.

        My tools of choice are:

To "rip" to hard drive - The aforementioned DVD Decrypter

To compress to single-layer, single-side DVD size - DVD95Copy, DVD2One, or the recently released (remarkably!) FREEWARE, DVDShrink

        To burn - NERO

What kind of crack are you smoking ? Every dvd-rom i've come into contact with plays my dvd+r's .. mine, my wifes, my brothers, my moms .. now there are undoubtly some out there that won't play them .. just like there are some that wont play dvd-r's ..

            Bottom line ..
            dvd-r's = cheaper
dvd+r's = works with more players

DVD+r will win the standards battle ..

Please be polite as i am not picking on any one.
                  Now i know for sure
dvd+r DOESNT work with most players, i work for best buy and i am a buyer and i know what i am talking abt esp when it comes to dvd players, most dvd will players will play dvd-r but not necessarily +r, sony will, pioneer, toshiba etc wont.
and dvd-roms wont play dvd+r, if u have one that plays one maybe that was made for you, because unless dvd forum certifies it, dvd rom makers are not obliged to make their drives compatiable with dvd+r format.
unless u work for one of the companies in the alliance or a big fan of them you should know what i am talking about is true and i have text to back me up!

i dont want to start a flame war about formats, but i guess u get my point!

So .. your contention is that more players will play DVD-R's then will play DVD+R's ? Ok .. i will let you make a laughingstock out of yourself if that is what you want. There have been studies done that prove DVD+R is much more compatable especially with older dvd players.

As far as DVD-Rom's go .. again 100% hogwash .. are there some that wont play dvd+r's ? yup .. just like there are some that wont play -r's but don't make this sweeping accusation that dvd-roms dont play dvd+r's that is untrue every single one I have tried plays my DVD+r's and they are a wide mix of brands.

I have said it before please be polite, as we are having a discussion we are not picking on one another..

                        follow this url:

EVERYONE SHOULD, it will give you an idea of whats out there in the market.
AND for you my friend who plays dvd+r in dvd-roms, i am not going to say anything because it wont mean anything to you but just for future reference dont go around telling people dvd+rs play in dvd-roms, we have more than thousand problems within the company regarding this and we know it doesnt work.
I agree with one thing you said "its more compatiable with most old players" yes! dvd+rw is , not the dvd+r..

So DVDDecrypter WILL burn to a DVD+R or won't it? If it will, great, if not, what are my options to burn to DVD+R?

I can't say it any clearer:

                              Thanks for your help, really...
After checking out dvd decrypter for myself, since you refused to answer my question with a straight answer, I understand what you kept repeating.
I'm sure to you the whole process might be simple to you, but please keep in mind that when helping those of us who are not "Emperor's of Digital Video", a simple 'yes, dvd decrypter will burn to dvd+r', or no, 'Dvd Decrpyter will not burn to dvd+r so use Nero', would be alot easier. But again, thanks for your help. Had you not addressed my question the way you did, I wouldn't have done all the research I did on other software while waiting for an answer. Now I have all the tools I need.
                              So seriously, thanks again.

                              The idiot who's slowing learning...
